Flying from Niagra Falls to New York

by daisylou

I am hoping to fly in to Toronto from Ireland and then on to New York. Can someone recommend an airline to use? and how long does it take?

If you are planning to stop over in Toronto, then I would recommend Porter Airline, which flies out of the small downtown airport in Toronto.

Many airlines depart from Toronto Pearson to New York. Have a look at Westjet also.

wait...I just read your question again...are you flying from Niagara falls or from Toronto? If from Niagara, you can also check Buffalo/Niagara airport as internal flight is usually cheaper within the US.

i think i will fly in to buffalo... thanks for suggestion

Your question is a bit confusing.

Are looking at flying Ireland to Toronto, getting to Niagara Falls and then flying to New York City? The trip to Niagara Falls from Toronto is about 90 minutes and can be done road or rail. Viewing the Falls is far better from the Canadian side. You could cross the border and head to the Buffalo Niagara airport, where you can catch a flight to one of the New York City area airports. Flight time would be about 90 minutes.

buffalo international airport is about a 45 minute drive from niagara. it is a fairly competitive route - i know that at least US Airways and JetBlue fly that route direct, about a one hour flight.

Sorry to tag onto someone else's question but I am seriously considering a similar trip. My plan is to fly into Toronto, hire a car (?) and drive to the falls. Then carry on to probably Buffalo or possibly into Pennsylvania before flying elsewhere in the US. Car hire between countries is obviously not possible or super expensive so what do we do? Can we bus/train from Toronto to Niagara then cross the border (with our bags?) and hire a car in the US?

Hi Amanda - you can most certainly take the bus or train to Niagara Falls. Via Rail and Greyhound both connect Toronto to Niagara Falls. The trip is 90+ minutes.

I'm not quite sure what you would do with your luggage while visiting the Falls (if you are spending the night, leaving the bags at your hotel would be the obvious thing to do). The Rainbow Bridge which connects Canada and the USA is walking distance from the Falls, and does take foot traffic. You would clear US Customs and Immigration there. I expect that you could catch a taxi or other public transportation to get you to the Buffalo - Niagara Airport to catch a flight.

flying out of buffalo is the obvious choice. the nearest major airports to buffalo are cleveland ohio and pittsburgh ( anything out of erie international will just be a shuttle flight to another hub airport ).

i don't know for sure but i cannot believe that you would not be able to find transportation across the bridge by bus or taxi.

Cool thanks guys. Fingers crossed I will see some really cheap flights and get over there soon.

Travel Tips for Niagara Falls

Fantastic vacation

by miner

Niagara Falls, along the Niagara Parkway is the site or route that I enjoyed most.Queen Victoria Park is beautiful.Originating in 1887,the park is illuminated at night and has seasonal floral displays. Getting up early Monday morning (5:30) and getting an early start on seeing the Falls before the crowds got there.I think we were there before the seagulls got there!!
My wife and daughter were not that enthusiastic about seeing the Falls that early.

It's not a trap!

by JennysTravels

Hi,

Welcome to my city!! I hope you have a great time here as there is plenty to do and enjoy on a tight budget.

Niagara Falls is best viewed from the Canadian side. You can get up close or view from one of the hotels, restaurants or casinos that line the waters edge.

Ok. Must Do's in Niagara Falls

1. The Maid of the Mist. It's just amazing!
2. The Ferris Wheel. Big and fun.
3. Check out live entertainment in the Fallsview Casino in Club 365. Maybe drop a few dimes...you never know!
4. There's a cool nightclub in the Fallsview Casino and for the life of me I can't remember it's name...but it's a good time.
5. Take a 30min drive to my second hometown Niagara-On-The-Lake. Take a romantic stroll at the edge of Lake Ontario, grab a pint at The Angel Inn, shop all along main street.
6. While in NOTL sample some of our local wine. Just stop at any winery you see and they will be happy to sort you out.
7. Back in Niagara Falls, there's Clifton Hill. What many people call a tourist trap. I don't believe this way, it's just what it is. IMO a mini-Las Vegas, and is Vegas a tourist trap? So Clifton Hill is jammed packed with bars, restuarants, carnival type games, cotton candy, cheap tshirts, donuts, moving movie theaters, muesums and all sorts of fun wacky people.
8. Where to stay...there is a youth hostel by the train station. I believe it's a YHA. They might have private couples room.
9. On when to leave, depends on you. Do you have appointments monday? Do you want to drive sunday night?
10. Eating is easy, the portions are generall BIG, so order one sandwich or burger with fries and share! I've done it with friends all over the world.

Have fun. Hope this helps.

Stroll in the Whirlpool Park

by abi_maha

It is just a nice feeling to walk next to the rapids and have a walk way that overlooks the whirlpool. Aj and I sure loved it for a couple of hours in the afternoon. Nice and full of shade from the sun it is a good way to spend some time on your own.

Take the red bus

by joanj

Although this photo of the big red bus was taken in l996, and I have been back to the falls a few times since, I hope they still are running this unique bus ride.

(Those of you who have been to England will no doubt recognise our red double decker buses, mostly found now in London.)
