VT Meet at Niagara Falls

by Suet

"6 hooligans on the loose...."

Friday 30th April
Arriving at the Hotel Days Inn Fallsview District 6408 Stanley Ave, Niagara Falls Ontario L26 3Y5 Canada, cost $42.73 per room, we stumbled upon Waaleweiner looking very comfortable in the car park with chair and something to drink. Immediately recognisable as he was wearing a VT hat!!! What a sweet man! Lori appeared and it was clear that these two people are two halves of a whole. They were meant to be together. Romance (sigh). We walked to Niagara Falls with Diana and Jose, Hans and Lori and took lots of pics, 6 hooligans on the loose. Had a brilliant day! Roy, however, did not appear too enthusiastic about trying out the old "barrel over the Falls ploy"

ohhhhhh by the way all these pics are courtesy of Roy (Imaniac) THANKS Roy.

"Happy Day!"

The noise of the Falls was loud, I kept feeling like the Captain of the Titanic... where's all that flaming water coming from??? I understand there is a Falls in Argentina that is bigger, but this was pretty spectacular. The green glassy water was mesmerising, watching it disappear over the edge. Funniest part was sitting next to Lori as Jose used her head as a camera stand. I don't think his pic turned out that great as Lori was giggling too much!

"ehhhhhh that Roy!!"

AS IF I would even suggest that Roysie went over the falls in a barrel!!!! He's such a sweet lil boy!

Well, Roy I doubt if I would even have made it out of the airport without your exceptional organising talents... much less took on a trip like this on my own...

Is there a light show every night at Niagara Falls Canada?
Is there a fireworks show? and, if so, what days and times?

Thanks.

Agreed. The light show is every night. Although at different times at different times of the year. Here's another fireworks reference site to verify

The Falls are illuminated with coloured lights every night of the year.

Fireworks are on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, at 10pm sharp, during the summer.

Travel Tips for Niagara Falls

'Niagara on the Lake' Intro

by sunnywong

During the War of 1812, Niagara-on-the-Lake came under fierce bombardment and was the scene of bloody battles. Today the town is still under siege, but by hordes of friendly tourists shooting cameras instead of muskets. Besides having the reputation as one of the prettiest towns in Canada, Niagara-on-the-Lake is also one of the most fascinating historically.

The Town has retained its 19th century charm and is a wonderful place to explore with its forts, grand mansions, colourful gardens and parks, and pot-pourri of arts and crafts."

Interesting Historical Location

by gemlynn

The Old Welland Canal site has a very scenic bridge and a good view of the canal itself. There is a monument located here and some interesting information about it on the plaque. I found it to be a good place for photo opportunity, and a quiet and peaceful place to visit if you just want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Niagara Falls. If you follow Lundy's Lane all the way out to Welland (about a 5 minute drive) you will reach this area. The site is free, and you can park in a lot right near the bridge.

Drive if you Can

by krizt

Well, I drove from Southern Illinois to Niagara and it took about 12- 13 hrs. We took 57 N to 70 W to 71 N and we were in Buffalo- I think we just followed signs from there. We went through Indianapolis, Columbus, Cleveland, Eerie, and Buffalo. There are a lot of wine trails around Eerie. We stopped at one -Scholss Doepken- that was really good and the vineyard was beauthiful. The lady there was extremely helpful and very nice. Check out the book 'Discovering Lake Eerie Wineries' by Kevin M. Atticks.
On the way home we hit a lot of road construction so we took 79 S to 64 E. We went through Pittsburg, Charleston, and Lexington. Couldn't find a place to stop and have a drink in West Virginia- Don't really like it there but it was a BEAUTIFUL drive!!!

It's Been Around for Decades

by CdnJane about Pilgrim Restaurant

I can remember going to this place way back in the early 70s. Well, I'm not sure that they have changed much in the decor.
We had an ok meal... not gourmet, but rather just plain food. It seemed to be a suitable place to go with a family, or for those not looking for a chain restaurant - lots of those to be found in the area. I had an excellent hot beef sandwich, with nothing to complain about. Seemed to be good quality, and quantity, of beef slices.
The apple pie with cheese was good - homemade style, not filling from a can.
