Niagara Falls to NIagara-on-the-Lake and back

by dongix

Hi all:) We will be in Niagara Falls on April 13 to 17 and plan to do a sidetrip to Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Since we don't drive, please let us know how do we get there and how long? Also, any ideas on how much will the fares be?

Since it will still be cold during that time, we might probably be able to go out only in the afternoon while it's warmer (we have two kids with us), is half day enough to enjoy the sights of NOTL including the travel back and forth? WIll there be enough transportations from NOTL to Niagara falls?

Thanks in advance. I appreciate your help :)

Hello!

I am not aware of any bus service that runs from NF to NOTL. However, if you are staying at a hotel they might have a bus service or a winery tour type of service that would bring you into NOTL. My advice is to check with your hotel and see what they have to offer in ways to NOTL. It's only a 30min drive and a taxi is about $40. IMO a half day in NOTL would be enough to see the sites. It's my hometown and one of the most beautiful plaes, I just love it there. Make sure you check out The Angel Inn it's a running B&B which is a haunted house, they also have a bar on the bottom level. It's my favorite place to visit when I return to Canada. Have a great time.

5-0 Taxi provides a shuttle service between certain hotels & the bus terminal in Niagara Falls to/from Fort George in NOTL

There isn't a lot for kids in NOTL other than the fort, so a short visit is probably enough.

HI Jenny, thank you so much for your tips on NOTL. Have a nice day!

Hi Rick, thank you very much for providing the link for 5-0 taxi. It helps a lot with the transport issue and one of the pick up points is very close to our hotel.

Travel Tips for Niagara Falls

OUR FRIENDLY BORDER

by LoriPori

Niagara Falls is an ideal vacation area and with some basic information, you can make your visit even more enjoyable. Since the Niagara Falls experience is a blend of the distinct flavours of both Canada and the USA. I will provide some information here for you.
Travel between Canada and the USA is quick and convenient by way of the Rainbow Bridge, central to Niagara Falls, along with Peace Bridge (Fort Erie) , the Whirlpool Rapids Bridge (Nexus pass only) and the Queenston/Lewiston Bridge. The toll is $3.50 Canadian funds and $3.00 US funds.
You can also walk across the bridge and enjoy spectacular views of the Falls and Niagara River.
When entering either country, the border crossing process is simple and friendly. Customs agents will request your place of birth, your destination and the expected length of your visit. Have your identification ready as the agents may ask you for certification of residency. It is wise to have a driver's licence , proof of citizenship such as birth certificate or passport readily available.

Beluga Whales, Marineland

by kris-t

Arctic beluga whales are one of the most popular members of Marineland's marine mammal family.

This gregarious whale can be up to 5m (16 ft) long, larger than all but the largest dolphins but smaller than most other toothed whales. Males are generally larger than the female - males can weigh 1.5 tons and females about one ton. Newly-born Beluga are about 1.5m long and weigh 80kg. Belugas are also very playful, friendly mammals, you can feed them here

The Welland Canal - a great wonder

by K.Knight

How is it possible to lift ships up and over the cliff face of the Niagara Escarpment?
Not only is this done on a routine basis, but the technology is so simple that ships have been routinely hoisted up and down the escarpment for over 150 years. Let gravity and water do the work. The locks are filled and emptied by water flowing downhill from Lake Erie toward Lake Ontario.

Anne and I spent an hour here watching a huge ship come up the canal and float into the lock. The giant doors at the stern of the ship closed, the water started filling the lock and the ship rose. when the lock was full, the doors at the bow of the ship opened and the ship sailed off into the distance.

Lock 3 Complex-St.Catharines is located On Government Road north of Glendale Ave.The centre features an observation platform, full service restaurant and the St.Catharines Museum. The complex is open all year although ships only transit the canal from March to December. A quality souvenir store, food concession, patio area and information centre are all on site.

Train back from Niagara

by kentishgirl

We travelled back to Toronto a few days later and once again used the train.

This time it was an Amtrak train because it had come from NYC.

The station is tiny for the amount of people that it serves and there arent any platforms either!! You just walk up onto the train!

Go only for the view

by Zmrzlina about Skylon Tower Dining Room

This is a revolving restaurant and for that reason it is a neat place to eat. However, the price is very high for blah food and the service is indifferent. Such a shame that attractions that have something special to offer rarely provide their best at what they are meant to do.
