This Econolodge fits into all categories, sort of. I had forgotten how far over the Horseshoe Falls were from the American falls, and didn't realise where the new Casino was and all that complex.
However, we were quite happy with where we were.
Econolodge is part of the Choice Hotel chain, but about the bottom level. That in itself gave me the feeling that there would be some standards. And, as I said, it was clean. You also get what you pay for - no little bottles of shampoo, no built-in hair dryer, no coffee-maker, no remote for the tv (that I saw anyway), and a small pencil rather than a pen with the small pad of paper. But we were only there to sleep... so what more did we need.
We were 2 minutes walk (if you didn't stop to look at the Criminal Hall of Fame or whatever that place was) from the top of Clifton Hill, and then just a steep short walk down to the relative sanity of the walk above the falls, and the launch for the Maid of the Mist.
I booked directly on the Econolodge/Choice Hotel webpage - found it cheaper than Travelocity, Expedia, or Hotels.com. http://www.choicehotels.ca/
Weird entrance off Victoria or is that Lundy's Lane? just before the lights.
Hot tub out of order.
