transportation from buffalo ny to embassy suite niagra falls canada

looking for the least expensive fare from buffalo ny to embassy suite in niagra falls canada

Re: transportation from buffalo ny to embassy suite niagra falls canada

by xymmot

If you are renting a car, the Embassey Suite has parking lot far from the hotel. The airport is 30 to 40 miles to Niageria and the cost for a taxi is about forty dollars. There are airport shuttle buses and group bus located at the airport. remember you have to cross the border into Canada, so they charge more.

Re: transportation from buffalo ny to embassy suite niagra falls canada

by fallsguy

Taxi is much more than $40, totally dependant on how long at the border crossing, bridge traffic, etc.
This site lists several shuttle companies operating from Buffalo airport:
http://www.buffaloairport.com/GroundTransportation.asp

Jewel of Niagara offers a flat rate $80 per car (not per person)

Sorry, price of gas must have gone up, looked at the last reply that said 85dollars, I thought, it can't be, so I looked it up and found Airport Taxi Service (716-633-taxi) at a one person rate of $55 1-800-551-9369. Then I saw the Casino buses that are free, but it said no luguage allow. (coach USA), but I am sure that there are buses that should be cheaper since I know from BUF to Toronto is only 100 USD

There is cheaper public transit, but it doesn't get you right from the airport to the hotel. For instance, you can get an NFTA bus from the airport to the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls, NY for under $3, but then you have to get across the border and to the hotel, which means walking 2 miles with luggage or a taxi. It may be cheaper but not nearly as easy or convenient.

Travel Tips for Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls Travelers Information

by niagarafalls101

* Weather
* Currency & Measurements
* Retail Sales Taxes
* Travel by Car
* Travel by Train
* Travel by Air

NIAGARA FALLS WEATHER

* Spring: April and May - Cool and Mild, great time to visit and enjoy outdoor activities.
*
Summer: June, July and August - Hot and Muggy or Cool and Muggy (High Season). Most tourists visit during the Summer Season (May 24th through Labour Day)
*
Autumn: September, October and the first few weeks in November - Cool and Mild, great time to visit and enjoy outdoor activities.
*
Winter: November, December, January, February and March - Cool and Wet or Cold and Wet or Really Cold and Icey.

Weather-wise, the best seasons to visit Niagara are Spring and Autumn. Because of the proximity to Lake Erie and Lake Ontario the summers here can get very humid and the winters can be grey and wet. If you need more accurate weather information, visit Environment Canada, The Weather Network or The U.S. National Weather Service.

CURRENCY & MEASUREMENTS

In Canada, the currency is Canadian Dollars, distance is measured in Meters and Kilometers, the temperature is in Celsius, liquid volume is measured in Liters and weight is measured in Kilograms.

* $1 U.S. = $? CDN (it fluctuates, as of Jan. 19, 2009 $1.00 US will convert to $1.20 CDN)
* 1 meter = 3.28 feet
* 100 kilometers = 62 miles
* 20 degrees celsius = 68 degrees fahrenheit
* 1 liter = .264 U.S. gallons (liquid)
* 1 kilogram = 2.205 pounds

Most Canadian hotels, restaurants and vendors will accept U.S. dollars for purchases but the conversion rate won't even come close to the official exchange rate. Your best bet is to either use your credit/debit card to make purchases or convert your U.S. dollars to Canadian before you go shopping!

For currencies other than U.S.$, your best bet is to convert before you get here!

RETAIL SALES TAXES

In Ontario, Canada there is a Provincial Retail Sales Tax (RST) of 8% and/or a Federal Goods and Services Tax (GST) of 6% on almost every product and service. I mean everthing! Haircuts, chocolate bars, shoes, hotel rooms, restaurant meals, attraction passes, rental cars ... and so on. So no matter what the sticker price says, it's going to cost 14% more. The "sin" taxes are even higher on Alcohol and Tobacco.

The good news is. If your visiting from outside Canada you can get a rebate on the GST by filling out a form that you get at most of the Duty Free shops along the border and at the airports.

My advice for visitors. Bring your own Bourbon and Smokes and save your receipts for everything you buy here.

IF YOU ARE TRAVELLING BY CAR:

* The City of Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada is located on the west side of the Niagara River approximately half-way between Lake Ontario to the north and Lake Erie to the south.
* If you are arriving from the U.S., you will probably be crossing into Canada at one of three U.S./Canada borders along the Niagara River i.e. Buffalo/Fort Erie Peace Bridge, Niagara Falls Rainbow Bridge or Queenston-Lewiston Bridge. The border crossing wait times can be as little as 10 minutes to as long as 3 hours or more. Be prepared! (see border wait times)
* U.S. Citizens and foreign nationals must produce proper I.D. at the borders before crossing. (Canada Border Services Agency)

Night illuminations

by OlenaKyiv

Nature created a beauty of Falls, and human enhanced it with illuminating lights at night that make you feel like you are in a fairy tale.

The first large scale attempt to illuminate the Falls at night was in 1860 using what were known as Bengal Lights (before electricity). The Falls were first illuminated to honour the visit of the Prince for Wales.

In 1925 twenty four great carbon arc lamps were turned on producing 1,320,000,000 candlepower.

Currently a total of 21 Xenon lights are used to illuminate the Falls. In 1998, 18 of these new lights replaced older lamps and fixtures at the Illumination tower, doubling the intensity of the lights on the Falls without doubling the hydro bills. Each Xenon spotlight illuminating the Falls at night has a brilliance of 250,000,000 candlepower.

Dufferin Islands Nature Preserve

by kazander

Dufferin Islands Nature Preserve is just 1 mile upstream of the falls. It's a peaceful place with footpaths leading from little island to island. A picnic area is provided complete with grills for Bar-B-Queing.
Parking is free. It's worth a stop for a look around. I saw people fishing as well as picnicing. The are also quite a variety of waterfowl in the park.
Fishing is allowed in the park, but it is catch and release only.

People Mover

by Dabs

Since we bought the Adventure Pass, we got two days of use on the People Mover, a bus that services the main attractions along the water and up along River Road. The buses run every 20 minutes or so. There is a courtesy stop for the B&Bs along River Road, our B&B was in the middle of two stops so it made more sense for us to walk but it would be useful if you were staying at one of the ones further up River Road. We used it to get to the Riverwalk and then again to get back to the Falls after dinner for the fireworks.

You can also purchase a day pass for the People Mover, currently it's $8CDN including tax.

Outback Steakhouse

by sim1 about Outback Steakhouse

I have to admit I couldn't really remember what I ordered, hahaha, but it is two years ago, so maybe that is not surprising :-) I do remember that it tasted really good and that there was plenty of it!

You can order anything from seasoned steaks, prime rib, chops, ribs, chicken, seafood and pasta. But remember not to order too much side-dishes. The main menu is already so much food that you probably won't be able to eat it all otherwise.
