September Crowds and Bridge Traffic

by callie1

We would like to make a short visit to Niagara Falls on the second Sunday in September. How crowded is the Falls area at that time? Has anyone had experience with crossing the Queenston-Lewiston Bridge in mid to late afternoon? We have some serious time constraints and the options are a short(3-4) hour visit or none at all. We'd love to see the Falls again after a 40-year interval and do The Maid of the Mist but are unsure how realistic this plan is. Also, what is the parking situation? Thanks.

I wish I could agree with the previous poster.
I've tried to get the Maid of the mist tour in on short timelines and had a tough time of it.
I'm not sure if you are coming from the states or Canada but whichever side you approach from you should stay on it if you only have four hours. The border crossing will eat up too much time. You will probably spend at least an hour getting into (or back into) the states on this day.

Stay on whichever side of the river you are on and enjoy the view from there, it is great from either side.

I agree with the Oldguy... there is a Maid of the Mist running on both Canadian and US sides, so if you don't bother crossing the border - and the Queenston-Lewiston Bridge seems to be really busy lately - longer lines than either of the other 2 bridges - why bother wasting time? Just see the falls from which ever country you'll be in!

Driving Regulations in Canada!

by machomikemd

The minimum age for driving in Canada is 16. A valid driver’s license from any country is required to operate a motor vehicle in Canada. You must also carry the car’s registration information. The speed limit in Canada is posted in kilometers per hour. Please note that speed limits vary depending on the type of road. The speed limit on most Canadian highways is 100 km per hour (60 miles per hour), and 50 km per hour on city streets. (1 mile is 1.609 kilometers)

Please note: It is mandatory for all drivers and passengers of a motor vehicle to use seat belts. It is also mandatory for all motorcyclists to wear helmets while driving. Operating a motor vehicle, including boats, while under the influence of alcohol or illegal substances is illegal in Canada.

The weather at Niagara Falls

by sim1

Average Temperatures (in Fahrenheit):
January - March max 37 min 16
April - June max 73 min 34
July - September max 79 min 52
October - December max 55 min 21

The coldest months in Niagara Falls are November through March. Count on lots of snowfall during the winter. And believe me: it is cold!

The moisture that evaporates from the lakes creates a special climate around Niagara Falls. Do count on more cloud cover in the summer because of that.

In June, July and August the temperatures are high, but don't be fooled by that. The spray and mist that surround the falls create a very special micro-climate. It feels much colder in this moist air and there is a big chance of getting wet of the spray when getting closer to the falls. So be prepared and bring a rain jacket and if you want to get really close to the falls, a change of dry clothing might not be a bad idea either.

nightowls and early birds

by JoelAM about casinos

remember when you stay in niagara, that the casinos are 24/7 operations, so you wil experience people coming and going all night long. its not a big deal unless the folks in the room next door are doing this. on our last stay in november, our neighbors returned at 3 AM- the door slamming shut woke us- then they decided to use the jacuzzi. iguess its just the luck of the draw(sorry--bad casino pun)as to how your neighbors are. obviously if you're staying very close to the casino the chances of this happening are better, but also hotels have shuttles too. so being away from the casinos is not a guarantee it can be a no-win situation-you go to sleep early your neighbor comes in late--you come in late your neighbor is early.

Watch Your Credit Card

by alwayswantingtogo about Denny's

Food Ok. Could be cleaner. Very busy. Paid bill and hostess/cashier were one in the same. Rushed us out and we did not realize she never returned credit card to us. Discovere missing card when getting gas and called immediately. Of course card gone. Cancelled immediately. They need to have a cashier and hostess for this busy place.

PASS ON DENNY'S

by dtownkitty about Denny's

They advertise that kids eat for $1.99 but your grown up meal will make up the difference in cost. The food is the same quality as other Denny's but you will pay a lot more for it. Ask yourself first if Denny's onion rings are really worth $5.00 US.
