Do you know what a funambulist is?
by Dabs
I learned a new word while reading one of the many signs placed around the Falls telling the history of the area, a funambulist is a tightrope walker and there were many who performed a tightrope walk over the Niagara Gorge. The most famous was a man named Jean Francois Gravelot, known as the Great Blondin. In 1860 with the Prince of Wales looking on he carted his manager on his back on the tightrope, he offered to also take the Prince of Wales but he declined. He was the 1st person to attempt to cross the Falls on a tightrope in 1859, subsequent stunts included crossing on a bicycle, on stilts, at night, while doing somersaults and carting a stove across in a wheelbarrow and stopping midway to cook an omelet!
Waterproof camera...

If you decide to go on the "Maid of the Mist" or the "Journey Behind the Falls", I would bring a disposable waterproof camera. Your camera WILL get wet!
I brought my video camera and had put it in a custom camera bag which kept the camera dry. I got some great shots of the falls. There was a lot of spray so I had to clear the lense area a lot!

365 Club. It's a great place to relax and people watch. I bumped into The Commitments on saturday night. Joe Walsh got up and belted out "Mustang Sally." I got up and had a dance myself. Carpe Diem right! Good times.
THE ORANGEMAN music group! Such fun. Casual. Even for the nightclub. Some people dress up, I do when I go. The 365 Club in the casino is a great time. They have regular bands and it comfortable there. 30+. No Cover. ID required.

The atmosphere is fine, albeit the music is way too loud for the upscale vibe they are trying to go for. We were seated at one of the worst tables in the place, even though there were many others that were free. We only got half of the daily specials (after we had to ASK what they were--and later we overheard our waiter naming off a bunch of new specials that he didn't even tell us about!)
we asked to be moved to a new table, and the manager refused.
the menu can't decide if it's italian, greek or asian.
we ordered the calamari, which was rubbery & for $9.99 we got a shockingly small portion... (probably around 8 - 10 rings) The pizza was TINY for $14.99! the toppings were all piled in the centre & it had no flavour, but lots of oil.
I would never go to the restaraunt again, & I would absolutely not reccommend it to anyone. it was one of the worst dinign experiences I have ever had... save yourself the bother & go across the street to Carpaccio where you'll get a fantastic meal for about the same price. none... an uninspiring menu
Fish and Chips and More

This restaurant is a short distance from the fall, about 10 minutes by car in the village of Chippawa. When I was there last (as I go frequently) three bus-loads of tourist arrived. So the word has got out and the reputation of the restaurant is well know. They have been open for over 40 years and they do have Sunday Brunch buffet. They specialize in seafood and fish but feature other dishes, chicken parmigean etc. They have childrens menus as well. Well priced - definetly NOT a tourist trap. Their Fish and Chips is my favourite. They also make , I mean they bake on the premises, some wonderful pies.
