quick driving trip
by islaluvr
I will be driving from Indiana to Boston through Buffalo later this month and since I will be so close thought I would deter to see a part of the falls. I wont have a whole lot of time so what would be the easiest/quickest detour to take and see something spectacular.

If entering the Buffalo area on interstate 90, The New York State Thruway, You can connect with the 290 and take it to the 190. Go Over the Grand Island Bridges and just after the second Grand Island Bridge there is a right turn. That is the Robert Moses Parkway. The Falls is just a few minutes on the Robert Moses. You can also catch the 190 just after paying the toll at Lakawana. It follows the Lake and will get You to the Grand Island Bridges.

Unfortunately for you the best views of the falls is from the Canadian side and now, post 9/11, the border crossing can be lengthy. But you can still get a good look from the U.S. side. There is a walkway that you can go out over the river on to get a better vantage point. and actually once you've seen and stared at the falls for 15 minutes that's about it. The common complaint of businesses in the area is that the average tourist doesn't stay very long in the area. So that's why they've invented lots of diversions in the hopes of enticing people to stay over a few nights.
Travel time from downtown Buffalo to the Falls is about 40 minutes, plus or minus.

Facts about Niagara Falls
by sunnywong
1. Less than 10% of the water flows over the American Falls with the balance flowing over the Horseshoe Falls. It is the massive volume of water that flows over the Horseshoe Falls that gives it its green color.
2. The American Falls is 180 feet (55 meters) high. Its brink is 1,100 feet (330 meters) long. From the Falls, the water travels down the Niagara River to Lake Ontario, then to the St. Lawrence Seaway and finally to the Atlantic Ocean.
3. The Canadian Horseshoe Falls is 170 feet (52 meters) high. Its brink measures 2,500 feet (750 meters).
4. Originally, 202,000 cubic feet per second (6060 cubic meters) or 5.5 billion gallons (2.09 trillion liters) per hour of water flowed over Niagara Falls; now, however, half of this water is diverted for power by the United States and Canada.
Hands Free Vacation

Be sure to bring a backpack with you. You will probably want to take many photos, and some of the attractions involve water, so you don't want to be holding things that will get wet. Running shoes are a must! I wore sandals one year, my feet were hurting so bad!

A Wonderful Dinner
by Babzz about Rooftop Dining Room, Renaissance Fallsview Hotel
Although the atmosphere wasn't spectacular, the view of the Falls was beautiful (made us feel justified for not going to the more expensive Skylon restaurant). Both our meals were delicious, and we're very critical! Our waitress was very attentive, we had a free sampler size appetizer and some sorbet (?) to cleanse our palates prior to our main meal. Wow fancy dancy! Most fancy, expensive restaurants look nice and are expensive, but offer little else. We were pleasantly surprised by this one.
Food in a Rock and Roll atmosphere
by Kristin050900 about Hard Rock Cafe Niagara Falls
Most people know the deal with The Hard Rock Cafe. With me being a souvenir and tourist attraction queen I had just had to eat here. We got to eat in the Elvis room, which was really cool. The food ranges from burgers, salads, pastas, and much more. I suggest starting off with The Jumbo Combo. This has Santa Fe Spring Rolls, Chicken Wings, Potato Skins, Onion Rings and Tupelo Chicken. I always get the classic HRC Cheeseburger(I know not much of a variety, but hey it's good!) And for dessert don't miss the HRC Hot Fudge Brownie!
