Surrounding areas

by bgsnmky

I am going to hve two weekends that I can explore/vacation in March.

I am traveling to Buffalo NY on business and plan on taking 1 weekend and spending it in Niagara Falls area.

I was wondering if anyone has any insight to surrounding areas maybe within 2 hours that I could go to that would be interesting. I would LOVE some place that is outdoorsy/wildlife viewing etc.

Example...Algonquin park etc. Not sure yet if that is too far away.

Suggestions would be appreciated.

start with the lovely village of niagara on the lake, just a few miles north of the niagara falls on the canadian side. toronto is one of the great cities of the world filled with museums, great shopping, and fine restaurants.

Algonquin Park is about 4-1/2 hours / 400 km away from the Falls. March is too early in the season to visit. Things don't really open up there until the middle to end of May.

You are looking at some of the most densely populated parts of Canada, so you are a bit out of the wildlife areas. As was previously noted, you are about 90 minutes away from Toronto. The Niagara region is well known for its wines and lots of wineries to visit in the area. Niagara-on-the-Lake is a very pretty little town - take in some theatre if the Shaw Festival is going then.

Two hours drive puts you well within reach of some interesting country areas near Niagara Falls/Toronto.

A drive through the Guelph region on to the winding, hilly areas of Acton, Halton Hills, and Caledon is pleasant.

Some places that may be worth a visit are Kortright Conservation Area or Bronte Creek Provincial Park (near to Niagara) - interesting although not as dramatic as Algonquin PP would be.

At a stretch, I'd suggest Collingwood to the north for an overnight stay, but that is at least a 3-hour drive one way.

I'd look for more specific info for you but I have a VERY slow computer right now.

Googling Niagara Escarpment and Bruce Trail may be helpful too.

The Maid of the Mist Pool

by OlenaKyiv

This is a great name for this place because without any doubt you can understand what it means. I couldn't see much of it on evening, when we arrived, but morning was the best time to enjoy the view of this poo. Actually I wouldn't say "the view" because so far the water from the Falls flying in the air doesn't allow to see anything but itself :-))

Niagara Wine Tour

by mms511

For 86.00 Canadian you can take a wine tour by Niagara Airbus. The tour includes pick up and drop off at your hotel. You can select different packages. Ours included three wineries, lunch at the Shaw Cafe in Niagara On the Lake and time for shopping . It is well worth the money and Niagara On The Lake is a beautiful town.

Don't waste your money!

Walk ! Everything is right around one spot. I guess there are a few things you may want to see that aren't within walking distance. But- I didn't use my car the entire time we were there. We walked everywhere. Make sure you're in well enough shape though. i thought I might pass out - there are a lot of hills ups and downs. Take water with you too. Plus if you walk, you won't miss a thing!

Oh and if you get to a place that you can't get down from- take this thing in the picture! It's a cart that lets you down the hill. I think it's like $3 a person max. (If anyone knows what this thing is called please let me know !)

If anything...go fo the T-Shirt

by aphrodyte about Hard Rock Cafe Niagara Falls

Yes...Yes...I am a Hard Rock Cafe T-Shirt collector. My very first shirt...Hard Rock San Antonio...since then...I have been hooked. This HRC is right next to Casino Niagara. Parking garage is right next to restaurant, but there are transports everywhere and it is walking distance from the nearest People Mover stop.

I like the fact that you know what the menu is, but the look of the place is unique to that area. This particular HRC has a room completely dedicated to Elvis and another to the Beatles.

Mon-Sun 11 a.m.-2 a.m. My favorite starter is the Southwest Nachos with guacamole and steak. I also like the potato skins. My favorite main dish is a toss up between the shrimp or beef fajitas or the grilled shrimp fettuccine parimesan. For dessert...the cheesecake...my daughter likes the hot fudge brownie. She will sometimes eat the cheeseburger here...but she prefers not to.

Great frozen strawberry margarita.
