An unusual building in Niagara-on-the-Lake, on the corner of Queen and King Streets, is the Niagara Apothecary. It is one of the longest operating drug stores in Canada until it closed in l964, and it has celebrated it's 30th Anniversary as a museum of Canadian pharmaceutical history.

It was founded in 1820. On the shelves lining the walls are original glass and ceramic containers, some dating back to the 1830's.

Admission is free, and donations are welcome. The Apothecary is owned by the Ontario Heritage Foundation.

FORT GEORGE NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE

The British built Fort George here between 1796 and 1799 to guard the strategic river mouth and Niagara-on-theLake. The headquarters of the British Army and Canadian Militia, FORT GEORGE became a major battlefield and played a key role in the struggle for the Niagara Frontier during the War of 1812.
The historic earthworks, authentically refurbished buildings and staff in period costume recreate the lifestyles and activities of the period. Demonstrations of military musketry, cooking, black-smithing and carpentry.

Château des Charmes

Château des Charmes was founded in 1978 by Paul Michel Bosc, a fifth generation French wine grower. The Bosc family owns 300 acres of vineyards and has the largest winery-owned vineyard holdings in the Niagara Peninsula. The Bosc family produces their award winning wines in a magnificiently designed château that is the jewel of the Niagara countryside.

"Niagara-on-the-Lake - Main Street"

.Whenever we visit friends in Toronto we usually go to the falls (again - my husband is awe inspired every time we go) and then go on to Niagara-on-the-Lake.

I know it throngs with tourists during the summer, but I still love to walk the main street to see the flowers and pretty little shops.

I always find Niagara-on-the-Lake beautifully decked out with floral displays.

The streets are so clean too, and here I managed to capture the pavement and buildings, without throngs of tourists.

It is such a pretty place to visit.

"Quaint Chapel"

This quaint little chapel is on River Road on the way to Niagara-on-the-Lake.
