NOTL
by JennysTravels
Hello there.
I love this little town and I did a lot of my growing up there. If you have never been to The Pillar and Post then you are in for a wonderful experince. I used to work at the bar/lounge. When I was small my grandfather would take me here for afternoon tea and we would sit, he would talk with his freinds and I would admire the atmosphere.
It's definalty worth doing a wine tour at that time of year in NOTL. I recommend Peller Estates Winery, Jackson-Trigss Winery and in the town of NOTL there is a small tasting shop. Im sorry at this time I don't recall the name of this shop but is across from the town clock. I have done many tastings here and have enjoyed each one. Also check out Hildebrand Winery.
I haven't done any of the cooking classes. However I used to work for a chef that hosted these events and he told me the turn out was decent. If you have the time I would indulge in this activity.
Ok ... not to miss. That time of year is hit and miss with the weather. Take a peek into The Prince of Wales Hotel, it's on the corner you can't miss it. Try some Canadian Fudge and Maple Syrup.
If you have a car take a drive to Niagara Falls. About a 30 minute drive from NOTL. This is my hometown. If you have any questions on NF check out my NF pages here on VT.
Happy Travels.
Tour a Winery

While we were staying in Niagara, the tour party visited the winery of Chateau des Charmes. The tour guide was very knowledgeable about this family run business, and took us right through the process from grapes, - bottle.
It was facinating to see the huge vats the wine was stored in, how they make the red/white/rose wine, but I was intrigued about the process of producing Ice Wine.
Since 1978 the Bosc family, has been producing wines.
There is a lot of family history, members of the family etc., on the web site, so I would urge you to take time to read it.

I hope you will be able to see here some of the color and beauty that awaits. I'm told that in the spring there is a tulip festival also and would be most colorful to see, having been to the Netherlands and provided a glimpse of the many astounding colors that tulips produce! September here is nice too!

Niagara-on-the-Lake is a consistently thronged tourist destination for Western New Yorkers and Ontarioans, as well as those on package tours which also include Toronto and Niagara Falls. The town is a quaint and historic centre of British civility, and the Prince of Wales Hotel, indeed, has hosted British royalty before. Queen Street, the primary thoroughfare, is lined with the expected gift and boutique shops catering to those ambling about aimlessly. The town is of some historical interest, considering it was the first site of the Ontario (then Upper Canadian) Parliament. The town also has a reputation for the theatre, and the George Bernard Shaw festival held here draws quite a few. On summer weekends, the park at the confluence of the Niagara River and Lake Ontario is a pleasant place to sit, as the crowds will testify.
Outside the town centre, the orderly and manicured Niagara Parkway has its own peculiar attractions as it skirts the gorge toward Niagara Falls, and the Queenston Monument marks the spot on which a battle of the War of 1812 took place.
