winery

Hi there,

Does anyone know of any really small wineries in the region that the main tours wouldn't take you to. Ones that aren't on the internet and ones that only a true wine connaiseur would know about?

Thanks,

Deborah

Follow this lead on Google. "Rick Vanderkuip" on http://www.rotaryniagara.org/gossip/issues/dec_14_2006.shtm

The ice wines from Niagara are to be enjoyed.

Firstly .
The tours should not really be an issue.

There are two groups of wineries .

Group # 1
is east of the Welland Cannel . If you explore this area and see
buses in the parking lot at a vine yard just drive on to the next
vineyard.

Group # 2
is west of St. Catherines . Repeat.

As for best wines fro VQA.
They do not appear in the LCBO.
They are exported or are served at a vineyard restaurant.

So. Try to visit some vineyards that have restaurants. But the bus tours usually stop or arrive at these places for lunch .

Try Vinelands Estates and hope there is a forecast of rain at 11:00 am
which means the bus tours will cancel at 11;30 am and you can sneak in.
Great wine and food and even a view ( or sort of ) .

Do not worry about the bus tours.

NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE LIGHTHOUSE

by LoriPori

Built in 1903, the LIGHTHOUSE marks the entrance to the Niagara River. Standing only 45 feet tall, it is constructed of wood and has a bright red light on top. Still in use today to aid ships with navigation.
On location is also a water sampling lab servicing the Niagara region.

Due to its location nestled beside the Niagara Escarpment, the entire Niagara Region is a fantastic place for growing all types of plants. The area is well known for its orchards and vineyards, and all Ontarians look forward to late summer, when the harvest of peaches, nectarines and many other fruits & vegetables comes in.

Niagara-on-the-Lake is no exception. All throughout the village, you will find beautiful flowerbeds, hanging plants, and beautiful parks. Of course, the plants are certainly well cared for, being in such a picturesque tourist spot, but the moderate, protected climate provides plants a longer growing season, and also allows the growing of certain plants typically only seen in lower lattitudes.

Be sure to take some time to enjoy the greenery, and prolific colours.

"Quaint Community of Shops, Sites, and Shows"

Niagara-on-the-Lake has much to offer to visitors. Numerous boutiques and shops line the main streets, restaurants offer great (if expensive) food, the Shaw Festival entertains, and loads of outdoor activities are available.

You can rent bicycles and ride all the way to Niagara Falls on a bike path; take a jet boat through Class 5 rapids, visit wineries and country stores, and take in two shows a day if you desire.
