More about White Oaks Conference Resort
My husband and I stayed overnight at this hotel for "the Merrymen" show on Sunday 30 October. From the moment we arrived we were very impressed with the number of staff and their helpfulness. The place was very clean with lots of flowers every where.
The room was as we requested i.e. upper floor, garden view in a quiet area. We overlooked a very picturesque garden with a little pond. The room was large with 2 very comfortable double beds. There was even a little book beside the bed advising you how to get a good night's sleep. There was a CD in the book that you could play to lull you to sleep.
The buffet lunch and breakfast were very good with plenty of variety. We drove to the town of Niagara on the Lake on the Monday. It was a pleasant 15 minute drive from the hotel.
We would not hesitate to stay there again if the occasion arose.
Didn't catch a wink!
My husband and I stayed here in Dec 05 for a night. Unfortunately we didn't get any sleep! The hotel was beautiful, even though decor is outdated. Most importantly the room was SO dry that just when we thought we were going to fall asleep, we needed another drink of water. When we finally did get to sleep, the alarm clock went off (6 am)..and it was one of these modern ones where you can't find the switch to turn it off. We had to pull the nightstand out and unplug it from the wall. The food in the restaurant was okay, but not great. If you decide to stay here, order a wake-up call and unplug the alarm clock before you go to bed, and bring plenty of water!!!
Very very good
Stayed during an annual conference and the room was an excellent retreat at the end of the day after boring speeches all day. Was assigned the "Platinum" Floor (for whatever unknown reason) and loved the room. Beds nice and snugly with comforter, not cheap sheets. Bathroom A M A Z I N G, loads of closet space, great t.v., full desk, lovely decor.
Food during meeting -- average at best. The "hot" buffet food was basically "lukewarm" and kinda plain tasting. Desserts were to die for -- try to Skor Pie if you can.
Overall decor of hotel is great, staff are true professionals for sure.
Stayed here Jan 28th as part of an annual girl's spa weekend with good friends. The hotel is not in NOTL but off the highway so if you are looking to be in the village this is not the hotel for you. However it is centrally located to all the wineries.
The rooms are very nice and very clean for the price, it is a much better value then what you pay if you stay in the village of NOTL.
The spa is wonderful - have been everyyear for past 3 years and always had great service and experience.
The food and service at the main restaurant, LIV was very, very good. Loved the homemade lemon cookies. Staff at the hotel have always been very helpful and courteous.
For the price I think this is a great hotel for a weekend spa getaway or wine tour visits.
My family stays at White Oaks regularly and I can't say enough about what an outstanding hotel it is. First, regarding location, it really is central to all of the activities of the region - wine tours, the casinos, Niagara Falls, Niagara on the lake - all are a short drive from the hotel.
The food is outstanding and their 'LIV' restaurant - with it's funky but elegant decor - is the best restaurant in the Niagara area bar none.
I'm not sure how management is able to create such service and customer-oriented employees, but their "the customer is always right" attitude is very refreshing. I read somewhere that White Oaks was named 2nd in Canada in the Globe and Mail's "Top 50 Companies to work for", so clearly they're doing something right in the way they look after and train their employees. Everyone, right down to the women who clean your rooms are polite, pleasant, and a joy to talk to.
Over the past few years I've ran some conferences at White Oaks and they have always been extremely well run. Inside their conference center they can provide a amphitheater set up if necessary, or small to large rooms, with a considerable number of break-out rooms if required. They can also provide internet access - wired or wireless - that can be somewhat of a mixed blessing for your employees during a conference. Their staff are always there though, if you need an extension cord or an overhead projector. In short, their conference people are outstanding.
My wife and kids love going to White Oaks - and when you consider that you've got a high end hotel, a complete Racquet and Fitness club, a spa, not to mention a Golf Course about a 3-wood away from their front door, it's got enough activities to keep everyone as busy as they'd ever want to be!
great place for a small business getaway
Our team of 10 stayed here for a team retreat and had a great experience. The boardroom facilities were fantastic - comfortable chairs, natural lighting, any equipment you need. The conference planners were very flexible and accomodating. The continuous coffee breaks were great and had a wide variety of snacks. Lunches and dinners were also very good - everyone found something they liked.
The rooms were very nice and the beds were incredibly comfortable. The free wireless internet is also nice.
The recreation facilities were a big hit with a lot of people in our group.
The staff here were also eager to please.
My only complaint is with the team activilities we took part in. The guided hike was a bit of a joke and we paid far too much for it. The wine tasting competition was also lacking - there was no insight or lesson offered before we started drinking and guessing.
All in all, for what we want, this place definitely delivered. While its true that its not in (or really near) Niagara on the lake, it was some really nice gardens and overall we were very happy. While we like to try new places each time, we are likely to return here again (especially with how reasonable the prices are for what you get!).
Not a 5 star resort
Service was ok, food was ok, rooms were ok, but this was not a 5 star hotel. The pond was filthy with green algae. The Valet's damaged my car and the management refused to take any responsibility. Do not valet your car at this joint.
My stay at this hotel was extremely disappointing. My husband and I spent the weekend at the resort as part a package ‘deal’ that was being offered by the hotel on their website. When we attempted to book the room, we were told that there would be an additional charge because there were no longer any rooms available at the advertised rate. Even with the inflated price we decided to go because the hotel deemed themselves as a 5 star resort. As we drove up we were horrified to see a gaping hole in the hotel haphazardly covered by tarp. At no point were we informed that exterior and interior renovations were ongoing (although I’m not even sure if these renos would help as this hotel is very outdated and full of chintzy décor). The pictures on the website were very deceiving and were not an accurate representation of the hotel.
As part of the package deal a shuttle service was offered to a vineyard and we watched as several people were asked to get off the bus due to space limitations. Options were to wait an additional 45 minutes for the next bus or walk. You can imagine how upset these individuals were. The hotel did not accommodate the number of guests signed up for this package in a reasonable manner and the staff seemed quite disorganized and unapologetic.
Of the three meals eaten at the resort, each was mediocre at best. In a completely empty restaurant, it took 45 minutes for our lunch to come out. The same slow service was experienced during our dinner at LIV. I still can’t seem to understand why we had four different servers for dinner (which created inconsistency and demonstrated the lack of communication between the servers). The quality of the food was average and did not represent value. Do not order room service for breakfast…it was absolutely gross.
I will never patronize this establishment again. There are much better places to stay in the Niagara-on-the-lake area (that are actually close to the village).
How can this be 5 star??
Where to begin. Being that this is our first valentines as a married couple my husband suprised me with a weekend getaway at what he thought was going to be a beautiful, secluted, romatic resort. Little did we know that we would be staying at an 80's inspired hotel right off the highway.
He purchased the Winterglow package offered on their website. The package consisted of:
-one night superior accomodation (we stayed 2 nights)
-gourmet dinner at 4 diamond restaurant LIV
-Reif Estate Wine & Cheese Experience
-bottle of Wine
-Spa Voucher ($50)
....sounds good doesn't it!
When we looked at their website and their brochures, we were expecting a wonderful modern place...that was far from what we got.
To start, the website claims that the resort is in Niagara on the Lake, in reality not. To get to the historic part of Niagara on the Lake takes about 30 minutes.
None of the pathways were properly shoveled when we got there. Upon check in we had some simple questions to ask and the guy checking us in was a little snippy with us.
The room was ok, the bed was huge but the pillows sucked. The room was cold until we turned on the heat. We also found the room to be very dry. I have never put on so much cream in 2 days.
As for the amenities in the hotel:
The pool that is actually there is nothing like what they show on their website. You can smell the chlorine from the enterance to the hotel. There are no signs to tell you where things are located. We had to ask 2 staff members where the spa was. There was a sauna somewhere but the staff member we asked was at a loss to tell us where it was.
The restaurant LIV was ok. Although we found it confusing the we had two servers. We didn't know who to ask for what.
The Spa voucher was a wonderful treat until I got there and they were completely booked up for everything I had wanted. I settled for a mini facial at 9am on Saturday morning. Oh and nothing is $50, so be prepared to pay extra for everything.
We had a wonderful time at the wine and cheese experience at Reif Estate...maybe because this place was about 20 minutes from the hotel. Their staff was friendly and knowledgable. We would recommend Reif Estate to anyone.
The room came with a mini bar...knowing how expensive mini bars are we didn't dare eat or drink anything from it. We did however remove a couple of cans in order to make room for some of our own water we had on us. Little did we know that as soon as we removed those items, we were charged for them. Their fridges are weight sensored, so as soon as it feels the weight of the item removed it updates your bill. After a bit of arguing we got the charges removed.
Also be aware that there is a $10.00 per day facilities fee. This includes parking and usage of pool and fitness areas. We didn't know that this was the case, so we had a $20 charge for facility use that we didn't make use of. After a little bit of aruging and showing proof that we hadn't be told about these charges they were also removed.
Over all we found the experience very unpleasing. With only one enterance into the hotel and parking only available in the back of the hotel in -15 degree snowy weather we were frozen when we got into the hotel.
Would we recommend this place to you...never. There are so many other places that we would gladly hand our money too. They really don't deserve their 5 star rating.
Great time at White Oaks
We stayed at the white oaks conference resort and spa as a weekend getaway. As a wedding gift it was fantastic. We stayed in the executive suite, the room was huge over 600 square feet I believe. The turn down service which included Godiva chocholates each night and a complimentary bottle of champagne waiting for us on ice. The bathroom included a bedaie, marble counter top, jacuzzi, and amazing tile work from floor to ceiling. It was definatly nice being spoiled. The customer service is fantastic. We ate several times at the bench mark restaurant. The prices are affordable and the nachos are to die for! If you like fine dining they also have a well known high end restaurant called Liv. They suggest to book reservations. Through the years there has been MANY updates to the hotel. Millions of dollars have been invested into the property for a well known gym and fitness centre with nothing but the BEST equipment. It also offers a nice pool and hot tub area which will also probably be updated within the next couple years. We had a great time and would love to go back!
