Oshawa and Durham County off the beaten path
"Nice residential cities along Highway 401"
Durham County (area 376,397 acres (1,523 km2)) is a historic county in the Canadian province of Ontario. It was named from the English County and city. Its major cities include Oshawa, Ajax, Pickering, Whitby, Bowmanville, etc.
We usually visit the region to meet with some family friends. Our only excursion to this region from a tourist point of view has been to visit Bowmanville Zoo, although Oshawa has museums, ski resorts and Ajax reportedly has some good lakeside picnic areas.
For now, I will have this page dedicated to Bowmanville Zoo, which has contributed to entertainment industry by way of most animal actors. Its animal talent includes:
1. most recent star, Baghera, the magnificent black jaguar from Peter Benchley's Amazon,
2. A bevy of camels from The Thirteenth Warrior starring Antonio Banderas,
3. Billy, the white Bengal tiger from the TV series Animorphs,
4. Elephants, one of which we saw shooting for TD Canada Trust ad.
