Budget hotel near Parliament Hill

This hotel has clearly seen better days, so the rooms and furniture are all slightly outdated. However, if you happen to find a good deal (less than $100), you can safely book a room there as it is always clean and rather comfortable. It's got a great location, just a few steps away from Parliament Hill, the ByWard Market and Rideau Centre. It's also the perfect place to go if you're traveling with a group of students as the rooms are fairly sound-proof, and the hotel staff is used to working with school groups. So I guess you get the idea, it's not a luxury hotel by any stretch of the imagination, but as a budget hotel it does a pretty good job.

Unique Quality: The hotel actually has a nice little restaurant called "The Bibliotheque Cafe". I've eaten breakfast and dinner there, and both were very good.

Capital Hill

I never actually stayed here overnight but I did attend meetings here for a couple of days and I did go to Yuk Yuks the comedy bar in the hotel one night.

I can tell you the Captial Hill is less expensive than some other places in the area. It is more of a budget hotel I guess you would say but it is in an excellent location downtown. During my last visit at some meetings the place was overcome with students from a University who were in town to conduct a mock parliament in the Parliament buildings.

Unique Quality: The fact Yuk Yuks is in the hotel makes it a bonus. If you like comedy you can just head downstairs and fill your boots with laughs.

Centrally located

Before leaving Toronto for Ottawa, I went to the Tourist information office and they called up a few Hotels and suggested this one. The price was OK (89 CAD) and location seemed to be good.

When we got there we were not disapointed. It is very central with most main attractions within walking distance. We were actually upgraded to a suite, which was a first, so I cannot complain about space - it was larger than our appartment in the Netherlands.

We only stayed for a night and were pleased overall.

Suite hotel downtown

I stayed a couple of nights in this suite hotel, though i had a double room not a suite. Suites allow you to do a bit of cooking yourself. The hotel room i had was huge! The location on Albert Street is very convenient to visiting downtown Ottawa as well. Rates are competitive to the area, perhaps a little higher than something outside the downtown area.

The best rentals in Ottawa..Any suggestions!

by Edwin_Ruiz

Hi all, we are a group of young students who are planning to make a trip to Ottawa. None of us have been there and we do not want to be stranded in the city. We do have an option of hiring some professional travel agent, but as for now, can you please make some recommendations on the best places to stay there.
Thanks in advance.

One hotel I'd recommend if you're traveling with a group of young students is the Capital Hill Hotel & Suites (http://www.capitalhill.com). It's not a luxury hotel by any stretch of the imagination, but it's clean and comfortable, and more importantly they are used to welcoming groups of students. The location is great, just a quick walk away from Capital Hill and the Byward Market. I spend a week there every year working with students and I've always found the staff to be very helpful. Hope this helps!

Jefie's advice is bang on. Another place to consider is the hostel at 75 Nicholas St, which is located in the old Ottawa Jail (used as the jail from the 1860s to the 1970s). I understand it is quite popular because of its former use. There are a few other hostels in town too.

The downtown core of Ottawa is fairly small, and really any of the hostels are a 5 - 10 minute walk from the market and Parliament Hill and the other main tourist attractions in town.
