This is the "Embassy Hotel and Suites," a local Ottawa hotel - NOT an outpost of the "Embassy Suites" chain. Just want to make that clear!
I was coming to Canada's capital to attend a conference at the University of Ottawa, so I was delighted to find this reasonably priced hotel so conveniently located to the campus - as well as to a host of the most important governmental sites on Parliament Hill. Another interesting area is the restaurant and bar strip along Elgin Avenue, just a few minutes' walk from the front door.
When I looking for a place to stay in Ottawa, my impression was that this is a pretty expensive city for hotels. The "Embassy Hotel and Suites" was rated as a 2 1/2 star accomodation - which seemed about right - yet the rate I received was almost 50% more expensive than the three-star hotel I booked in Montreal. And while Ottawa is certainly a nice and pleasant city, it's no Montreal.
The rooms are a little dated - the bar/lounge seems like something from the 1970s - but there's a traditional charm about the place - it's like entering a time warp. There IS a charge for daily internet connection - but the good news is that it's quite low - only about $3.00 a day. And - the location is quite good. Central - but on a quiet street.
