COMFORTABLE BUT NOT A 5 DIAMOND

Made my reservation by internet June 17 for August 13 wknd. Hotel kept our reservation till our arrival at about 10:15 pm on the 13th. Got a great welcome from the doorman. The concierge was absent from his/her desk---do they have one? Nobody offers to take my bag up to my room--is there a bell boy? Was given a Hotel magnetic parking key. We carried our own luggage to our room.
THE ROOM: a), baseboards need paint touch up. b). Lining underneath both chairs around table are torn and dangling
THE BATHROOM: a). paint peeling on ceiling. b). fan is noisy and cover is partially off. c). mirror frame and counter facing need paint touch up. d). one of the bath towels has a large hole in it.
COMPLIMENTARY PACKAGE: a complimentary package of "fitness" equipment was supposed to be waiting for us in the room-----it wasn't.
GARBAGE BAG IN HALLWAY: in front of service elevator for at least 12 hrs.
HOTEL MAGNETIC PARKING PASS: had trouble swiping it (at least five times for every time I went in or out of the garage-----thought it was my fault, that I didn't know how to do it----till I saw another patron having the same problem as I was.

Unique Quality: comfortable and seemingly perfect for families with children.

Large Clean - Great for families

This was like having our own two bedroom apartment in Ottawa. The rooms were large, with kitchen and living room. No noise. Great place to stay with kids.

Its wonderful hotel, staff were friendly and helpfull. The studio suite was more than we expected, it was spacious and luxurious, got little kitchen, nice bathroom and parking !! Excellent location with excellent price.

Unique Quality: Litle mall in first floor (Bank/Shops/Supermarket/Restaurants)

Best All-Suites Hotel

My room was fantastic. All the room amenities were new and in wonderful working order. The washer and dryer in the suite were a wonderful accessory. Definitely useful when your stay is a week or longer. The kitchen had a good regular size microwave, not one of those tiny little apartment size ones. The fridge was clean, and worked excellent. Even the freezer section froze ice within a decent amount of time. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a suite and not just a regular hotel room.

Unique Quality: This hotel is all-suites so you have a lot more room in each unit than in a regular hotel. There is a good pool and there is a 24-hour market on the first floor that has pretty much everything you could possibly need. Including milk, cereal and munchies.

More about Minto Place Suite Hotel

Minto Suites - Excellent hotel

by TripAdvisor Member karielee

My husband and son (11) stayed at the Minto Place Suite hotel in April 2006 for three days and had an excellent time. We had a one bedroom economy suite and it was ideal for our needs. The suite had one full bathroom and one half bathroom. The kitchenette was equipped with a sink, microwave and small refrigerator plus all the amenities (dishes, glasses, wine glasses, can opener, corkscrew, dish towels, cutlery and spatulas.) Everytime I looked around I was more and more impressed with the attention to detail put into our room. The suite had a separate bedroom and living/dining room. The bedroom had two double beds and the living room area had a pull out couch. This set-up was ideal for parents travelling with children who do not share the same 'bedtime'. Considering the fact that this hotel rooms rack rate was less than what you would pay for a standard double at the Sheraton or Westin this hotel offers excellent value. Plus, when we checked in we were surprised to be given vouchers for complementary breakfasts for each morning of our stay. Overall an excellent hotel that I would recommend to anyone who is travelling to Ottawa.

A wonderful hotel

We have stayed in a two-bedroom suite at the Minto Suite Hotel for three nights in April 2006, it was a wonderful experience. Our two-bedroom sute was beautiful, it has a full kitchen and one and half bathroom. The hotel staff including front desk, housekeeping, and the restaurant staff were all very nice and friendly. They offer a wonderful complimentary breakfast buffet on weekends, it's a nice way to start a day! We will definitely stay there again on our next visit to Ottawa! Overall, our hotel suite was pretty clean, except that on my first day there, I found one piece of hair under the soap in the ensuite bathroom.

My two daughters (9&6) & I just returned from Minto Suites. We had a two bedroom suite for three nights. The room could not have been better - very large space, comfortable beds, full kitchen, dining area & living room, washer & dryer, 2 baths, 2 TV's! Room was very clean and quiet, staff was very friendly and helpful. A little pricey but very good accomodations.

Nice amenities, service lacking

by TripAdvisor Member the_dinger

Went to the Minto Suites over the long weekend based on the reviews read on Trip Advisor. I felt that our stay at Minto Suites deserves a mixed review.

First the positives:
The Studio Suite we stayed in was very spacious, modern and comfortable. Kitchenette was useful to create and store quick meals. (Hasty Market downstair is open 24 hrs, but is on the expensive side).
Location is very good on the west end of downtown Ottawa, but everything is only minutes away from the hotel.
Parking is a steal, especially on the weekend. $4 a day, including in and out privelliges.

Negatives:
Service is entirely lacking for a hotel in the 4 diamond category. Upon check-in we had a woman who was very abrupt and unpleasant. There was a misunderstanding about the price of the accomodation, and her first response was to have me come behind the desk to see the computer screen to prove she was right.
I never witnessed a doorman at the front entrance to help you into the lobby. As a traveller that usually stays at the Fairmont chain, the service is night and day between the 2 chains of hotels.

In contrast, we happened to walk through the lobby of the Chateau Laurier on our way to parliament hill the next day, and even though we were there for only a few minutes we had multiple employees say hello and ask us how we were. Upon leaving the hotel the doorman wished us a wonderful day, and even pushed the revolving doors to limit our effort.

There were also long waits for the elevator, as it seems that the 4 elevators are not sufficient during busy periods.

If you're looking simply for a place to lay your head at night with ample space then Minto Suites is a perfect choice....just don't expect much service

Excellent Hotel

I have stayed at the Minto Suites for my last 3 visits to Ottawa. I must say this is my favourite hotel in the area, mainly because it is such a great value. Last weekend they upgraded me to a one bedroom suite when I had only booked a studio suite. The one bedroom suite had a full kitchen, including dishwasher as well as a washer and dryer. The price of this hotel is fabulous because you get a suite for the price of a regular hotel room. This weekend I stayed in a studio but was given a coupon for free Sat & Sun breakfast buffet. The studio suite has an effeciency kitchen which consists of a small fridge, two burner stove-top, microwave, large coffee maker and of course all the dishes and utensils you require. With a 24 hour grocery store downstairs and a wine shop, you can't go wrong. And if you really don't feel like preparing your meals, the new Prime 360 restaurant offers a wonderful weekend breakfast buffet as well as a full menu and room service. Hotel staff have always been friendly and accomodating and I've never had an issue with the housekeeping staff. This hotel is rated as a 4 diamond by CAA/AAA and yet the prices are so reasonable. For $113USD a night, there's no better deal in Ottawa.

Not bad considering the price !

Small appartment with 2 rooms / 2 bathrooms and a living room - open kitchen. Cosy and clean but rather small for an appartment. Calm. Nicely located inside a mini shopping center.
Rather far (walking) from the center of Ottawa.
Prices can be really attractive though vs regular hotels.
Good with kids.
Nice swimming pool (you have to go through the lobby to access the fitness/pool area).
