Travel Tips for Parry Sound

Parry Sound

by sim1

Let me start in these tips with a picture of the fire department in Parry Sound. Hahaha, actually that is all that I have of Parry Sound itself! It is not a spectacular little town, you, so that is why I only have this photo of it. I kind of liked these old firetrucks :-)

The Old Fire Hall was constructed in 1893. The original bell called the volunteer firefighters for 73 years and sounded the nine o'clock curfew until WW II. The historical landmark has been refurbished and is open to the public during the summer months. It is located at Market Square, downtown Parry Sound.

Parry sound is a good place to get all your shopping, and is also a starting point for a cruise throught the 30,000 island regions. Or maybe more original, take a scenic air tour. Hahaha, that is what I did, and it was great fun! You can see those pics on the 'off the beaten path' tips.

Up in the air

It's fun to see other airplanes take off from here, especially when you have been yourself! It makes me remind so much of my own experience, and I am getting the itch to go back up in the air again.

Kayaking Georgian Bay, July 2003

by windsorgirl

A wonderful way to enjoy the rocky Georgian Bay coastline is by kayak. Most waterways are too narrow and too shallow for noisy motorboats, so you can enjoy the peace and tranquility of the area.

You can store an amazing amount of stuff both inside the kayak and strapped to the outside. I recommend using drysacks for your clothing and sleeping bag.

We set up camp on our own private island. We took nothing but photos and left nothing but footprints.

Be forewarned however that you will have a difficult time setting up a tent that requires staking into this rocky ground.

There are many islands to stop at for a rest while paddling.

It is amazing that anything can grow through this rocky landscape.
