This resort is located in a beautiful setting, and while it may have been a very upscale place at one time, it is really showing signs of wear. The staff was very friendly. We were given towels for use at either of the two pools, even before we had actually checked in. We arrived rather early, but were greeted with a smile and invited to make full use of the facilities until our room was ready. There are lots of activities available on the site. Once we arrived at our room, however, we were rather disappointed. The room was in dire need of a cleaning, as were the carpets on the stairs and in the hallway of the building. There was no air conditioning in the hallways, and it was like a sauna until we got to our air-conditioned room. We had not been given any type of map with a floor layout, so it was like navigating a maze to find our room. We had not been told it was on the second floor, and that was a disappointment, as we had thought our room would have a screened porch. The bathroom needed a good scrub, as well as a fresh coat of paint. The jets on the Jacuzzi needed to be cleaned, as there was a build-up of lime on them, and the metal around the faucet and fixtures was pitted. The non-slip mat in the tub was torn on the edges and was dirty looking. The bathroom sink had been chipped and repaired, and rust was coming through from under the patch. The floor needed a scrub, and the door could use a wipe down as well. Although it was obvious the sheet on the bed was freshly washed, there was what appeared to be a bloodstain on it. There was dust in the mesh on the corners of the fireplace screen, and there was a dark, sticky looking drip mark down the front of a cabinet that had never been cleaned up. The towel in the kitchenette was threadbare and full of holes, and the stainless sink and countertop had seen better days. The fridge handle had been broken off, and there was dirt embedded in the jagged parts. There was an air of shabbiness to the whole room, despite the hefty normal rate of $279/night.
The view from the beach is gorgeous. While the interiors may be lacking in care, the grounds are well maintained and very picturesque. I have no doubt that it would be a beautiful place to hold a wedding. There are lots of trails leading through the grounds, and the views are all quite lovely. It's only a short drive to the Sandbanks beach, and apparently, passes are available at the front desk on a first come, first served basis. At most hotels, ice is provided as part of the package, but not in this place, as bags of ice were only available for sale at the front desk.
