Travel Tips for Smiths Falls
Travelling with children

Ok, we only have one, but here is my advise. If you are approaching Smiths Falls from Ottawa, (highway #15) try visiting the Railway Museum first. Than go to see the Rideau Canal Museum and leave the chocolate factory to the end. We did it almost like this and it was a very good idea.
On the picture you can see a huge painting of two tigers on the wall of a store, called Giant Tigre. It's a family, budget store. Almost like Target. The quality of the goods in this store is often questionable but the prices are very reasonable. Kids have a tendency to be hyper active when filled with sweets! :D Unless you want the kids jumping up & down on you all the step of the way while visiting, go to the Hershey place last.
Nice parks

There are beautiful parks found in Smiths Falls and around the Rideau Canal locks. This is near by the Museum.
I just had to take a shot of these flowers. Since I love nature and all kinds of plants, I couldn't miss this flower bed. The combination of the colors are very vibrant. Please enlarge image for a better view. Enjoy.
It can rain in a moment's notice

No Luggage other than your snacks. Umbrella. You also need sunglasses and sun-screen lotion for your skin. Everything is available in the local stores. I would still bring dental floss with me. Camera, film, batteries Rain coat. As you see on this photo, it was just about to rain in Smiths Falls. They supply you with plastic bags in the Chocolate Shoppe. :)
Kids play besides a big plane

Ok, maybe this plane is not so big, but it is huge in little children's eyes. It is located besides the Rideau Canal locks in a middle of a park where children play and bath in a kiddy pool.
The plane is a memorial for the people who learned flying and fought the wars with these planes.
A BOAT RIDE

The Rideau Canal and the Rideau River are very important to OTTAWA. the following pictures were taken near Ottawa at the RIDEAU FERRY and SMITHS FALLS Ontario ( where I was born in 1922 and lived until 1935 but returned in the summer months until 1941 as my father had a cottage there). I visited several times over the years.
