The beautiful area around Timmins. Not a lot of people live here, it is quite a desolate area. Most people we saw where fisherman, flying out to somewhere in the forest to go on a fishing trip on one of the many lakes.
Dress warm in the winter! It gets cold up there! In the summer it gets warm. No problem getting film or developing. Wal-Mart in the Timmins Square Mall. Away from Timmins, out in the bush, there are blackflies in the summer. Nasty insects, which will bite you and you don't even know it, until later when you start itching. In certain areas, people wear head nets to protect them. But, just be aware, and ask the locals for advice on repellent!
Timmins, Ontario: Gold mines, moose, Molson Canadian beer, breeding ground for professional NHL players, home town of my father, and Shania Twain!
Really, four towns, Porcupine, South Porcupine, Schumacher, and Timmins, adjacent to each other in the Canadian wilderness! Timmins is the largest town, the others are more like villages.
This photo is just arriving at Timmins airport, walking outside of the terminal into the parking lot. What a nice greeting to see!
