We are planning an April visit to Niagra Falls. Is this is good time of year to go and would you recommend a day trip to Toronto?
april should be really fine as long as you bring a jacket.
niagara falls have it's own charm all year around if you ask me.
and i certainly think that toronto is worth a daytrip.
in my opinion it's a very underrated city.
Most definitely go to Toronto --- cachaseiro is right -- it is very underrated, Toronto is very cosmopolitan and has so many good restaurants. Go up the CN Tower and walked on that mirrored glass and maybe even watch a game at their awesome stadium. And I've visited Niagara at all seasons - rain, sun and snow --- and it's nice to see it in different kinds of weather (just as I enjoy seeing the Grand Canyon in differet weather conditions)...Have fun! Yes it's a good time, spring is in the air, the flower are bloomin, not many people around at that time. Make sure you go onto niagara on the lake to visit the many wineries, shops and eateries in the village.

Be sure to visit Ontario Place on the Lake. There are more than 20 rides and attractions. Some of them are:

April 2006. The Eton Center is a good place to shop if you like to have things in the same place (I hate shopping, more so when I have to spend a whole day trekking through the town to match a shoe with a purse!)

Take the lift to the CN Tower which is 553 meters high (more than the Eiffel Tower). It is the world longest staircase with 2570 steps. The revolving restaurant is at 350 m. During the time of a meal you make a complete tour. Attractions : 3D cinema, shopping, viewpoint at the Observation Deck at 445 m.
When i arrived in Toronto i was greeted by immagration officer, who was from india, i then proceded to go threw, and walke out of the exit gate as i did i was met by a line of taxi drivers all from middle eastern and asian decent. and first i thought nothing of it but while driving to my hostel we past Littly Italy, Littly Portgual, China Town and a large Ukrainan community. was i really in Canada had i landed on some amazing planet were every culture cam toghter as one and race was not an issue, i ask my friendly taxi driver were are all the candians gone, to my suprise he replied, toronto is the most multicultl city in the world, this is why.

This is not tolerated at all. Mostly during the Christmas season, but also at anytime of the year when bars close at 2 am there are "ride" spot checks. Drivers get stopped by police for 'spot checks'. Drivers may be asked to provide a breath test to check alcohol levels. If it is high one may be ticketed, license suspended, car impounded, and/or taken into custody. It is against the law to refuse the test. Groups of people partying will select a person to be "the designated driver" who will be the person to abstain from drinking thus one is able to drive everyone home safely. Otherwise people pile into a taxi to get home safe.
