My feelings for this hotel are mixed: - My room had a view over the wall in front of it and there was absolutely no light in the room. Day or night, I would have to look at my watch to figure out the time of day. I might have been particularly unlucky as I was on the 4th floor, maybe the higher floors are a bit better. I was given the possibility to change but only on a few of the days and it would mean changing 3 time in total. The location is very good, in the middle of the Financial district, on Yonge st. between King and Front st. Union station (train and subway) is less than 5 minutes away and King st. subway is even less (1 1/2 block away). There are many good restaurants very close and there is even an Irish pub/bar right in front of it in case you want to go for a drink or just eat something without going too far. This can be useful considering that the hotel restaurant was closed for renovation. The frontdesk staff was not great. The girl, Carla, was very nice and friendly as for the others... not rude, but not very friendly either. On a few occasions I had some requests, which were only taken care of when I asked Carla (for instance, some shoeshine). My room was very small, there was just enough space to fit two twin beds and a small desk. I had to open the luggage on the bed. The bathroom had been renovated and looked quite good. Of course it had a problem that affects many hotels: The showerhead is fixed on the wall, meaning that tall people, like myself, have to bend down in order to take a shower. This is quite annoying. I was told that the deluxe rooms were a bit larger and also had a view (i.e. light!!!), but they cost an additional 25 CAD per night. What I liked about the hotel was that there was free wireless internet in the rooms, which worked great! I would probably stay at this hotel again, but would seriously consider getting a deluxe room as I got depressed in my "bunker". Overall, I think it is quite good value for money, considering the location. I paid about 125 CAD (incl. taxes).

 | | | | Days Hotel And Conference Centre: Good business-class hotel Compare Rates NEW! | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
I was in Toronto also for a training course and during that time, I stayed at this Hotel (the training center was nearby). It is a very nice hotel with good amenities like swimming pool and "Jacuzzi", it also had a laundry room which was useful as we had been on vacation a whole week before. The washing was complimentary, but there was a small fee for drying the clothes. What I did not like was the lady at the front desk during check-in. She was a bit rude and unfriendly, but I guess she was having a bad day as she was friendly on the next. The other front-desk staff were friendly. There was free, high-speed internet in the room, just plug in the laptop and surf. It was great as it allowed me to book the "Raptors" games :). There were also a couple of nice bathrobes. This was part of the "package deal" for this room; I guess it was not standard. We had breakfast vouchers that were part of the price, but they only entitled us to a drink coffee/tea or juice and either a muffin or a toast. Anything else was paid for. The quality was OK, but the service was the worst we had in Toronto. Room-service was fast and cheap. At least twice, we did not feel like going out for dinner and ended up eating in the room. The food was not only very good quality (for room service standards), but also very affordable This is not a hotel you will be likely to choose if you are on holidays as it is about 25-30 minutes drive from downtown Toronto (there are buses also that take just slightly longer), but is good for business travelers.

 | | | | Bond Place Hotel (65 Dundas Street East Toronto Ontario Canada): Central location, good price Compare Rates NEW! | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
We stayed at this hotel for 5 days and overall it was a good experience. Front-desk staff were less than friendly, but still quite professional, the room was OK, but not great, but it was reasonably large and clean and that is enough for me. Location is very good, just behind Dundas square and the Eaton Centre. If you want to go see a theatre play, you are 2 minutes away from a ticket sales point. There is a desk in the Hotel where you can arrange sightseeing tours and get vouchers for the CN Tower or helicopter rides. I got a great rate online, with a free night so we paid an average of 100 CAD/night UPDATE: We stayed here again during our last stay, this time for 8 nights and it was another good experience. We were first placed on the second floor by the not-very-friendly girl at the front desk, but the view was not any good (we had a tree right in front of us) and there were buses parked (with their engine on) early in the morning. The usual street noise was also quite noticeable. The next day I went to the front desk again and this time I spoke to a very friendly person (the front desk manager) who was very kind and placed us on the 16th floor with a view overlooking Yonge street (you don't actually see it because of the buildings, but its quite nice). Rooms were still clean and comfortable, they seemed a bit smaller this time, but still adequate. There was wireless internet available for 8.95/day, which is only available on some floors, so if you need it ask for a room with access or take the laptop to the lobby. I was told there is also a computer you can use in the basement. Be careful, however, as the subscription is actually renewed automatically if the time is up... without any warning. If you subscribe for 24 hours (you can also subscribe for just one hour or one month), one minute after you will be billed another 24 hours, so make sure you keep track of time. We paid 100CAD/night including taxes, so I was glad to see that the prices did not go up since our last trip. Parking is 14 CAD/day.

 | | | | Novotel North York: Under renovation Compare Rates NEW! | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
I had the opportunity to stay at The Novotel North York for a VT meeting September 2005. Located in the Northern section of the Toronto area this Novotel was a great place to stay with easy access from major highways and the hotel offers on site subway access to Toronto. I stayed in one of the "Novation rooms" they are recently renovated and boast: In room coffee and tea maker (first time I have seen Red Rose tea used) Room service was adequate and the checking in and out was quite good (however they did not mention the tax rebate for non-Canadian citizens, it was pointed out to me by Lori, otherwise I would not have known. The other two things I did not care for was The Mini bar...Big Brother is watching you...if you removed an item there was a sensor that automatically charged your room. The telephone never seemed to work, despite several attempts to use it. It did however, work for wake up calls. My cell phone charges .79 cents per minute and roaming charges, so I would have liked it if the phone made outside calls (even if it worked they still tacked on a useage fee. I recommend that Novotel make local calling free.
The views were great from the room. Being a solo traveler I appreciated the dead bolt locks on the doors, pay per view channel(s) Radio in room (this thing drove me crazy as there was no way to change the radio station and the alarm, despite turning the volume to off, the blasted thing managed to go off at strange times but never the at the time you would need it), Voice mail, WIFI Wireless Internet access High speed transmission line are complimentary or Web TV for a nominal cost, a Hair dryer in bathroom which was a very good dryer. The bed was large and comfortable (i needed a compass to navigate that bed! ;-) The shower is what I would like to highlight here. This shower was excellent, it had excellent force and it could be used either as a hand held or mounted shower nozzle. I took 2 showers a day because that spray was the best! | | | | The Cromwell Suites Hotel: Clean, Quiet, Affordable & a Great Location! | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
I have only good things to say about my stay at The Cromwell Suites! As I was in Toronto for a week, I tried to find accomodations that were both affordable and yet adequate, and The Cromwell was both! This facility provides daily, weekly, and monthly rates. I had a one bedroom suite with a power shower, table for two, and small kitchen area. All amenities were provided to include microwave, oven, standard sized refrigerator, lot's of storage space and closets, iron & ironing board. Rogers Cable on the TV which was a bit older but functional. The kitchen area included the basic essentials... a few dishes, utensils, knives, can opener, glasses, and even dish washing detergent and cleaning supplies. Hint! Hint! A deposit is required to book accomodation here, but I had no trouble with the refund of this upon my return, based upon no trashing of the place. I would highly recommend The Cromwell Suites as quite satisfactory at a less than expensive cost. I can truly say that I could be pleased to stay here again! What better compliment?
The Cromwell Suites had a number of things going for it! My first consideration was the cost for a week's stay. Secondly, it was a great location! It is less than a block from Yonge Street and only 2 or 3 blocks from the subway. There are many shops, eateries & restaurants, small grocery stores for the basics, and a now favorite pub! See more about these in other tips! The suite was clean and quiet. The shower was a "power shower" and one of the best ever! I'm told that Toronto has great water pressure and this shower with such force felt like it came directly from Niagara Falls. If you are driving while in Toronto, there is underground parking as well. Electronic access to the building and rooms was easy. There is also a laundry room for guests. Like a dummy, I didn't take extensive pictures, but have a few to share of the exterior and the view from my window. There is no food or vending machines available here, but you don't really need them as there are many establishments within a close walking distance for practically anything you may need or want.. | | | | The Fairmont Royal York: If It's good enough for the Queen... Compare Rates NEW! | Tip Rating: | | | | |
I didn't stay here... Are you kidding? I'd like to, but let's be real. I just walked by and was able to take a picture, and not such a good one at that, but I'll share it with you anyway! This is one of the oldest and most well-known hotels in Toronto having been built in 1929 in the grand tradition. I can't tell you about the ammenities but I can tell you that many famous people stayed here and do still, and Lady Jane tells us that Queen Elizabeth and the Royal Family have a suite (suites) reserved at all times just for them and their royal persons. It is located directly across from Union Station so it is easy for the royals to run out and catch a train or subway to their next royal event... are you royally with me on this? ;-) In any case, it is a landmark of Toronto and the architecture is most fitting. You must respect the history and visual effects of a Grand Hotel such as this, even if you never, ever get to stay here. But, you never know... you could win the lottery, I suppose! | | | | Hilton Toronto: In the heart of downtown, Priceline bargain Compare Rates NEW! | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
Although I didn't get as good of a deal as I thought I would nor the hotel I thought I was going to get, I was very satisified with getting the Hilton Toronto for $77 plus tax (Priceline does NOT charge the GST/HST since they figure you are a US citizen if you are using it so you don't have the extra hassle of claiming the refund.) I called the Hilton to request 2 double beds and adjoining rooms for the 4 of us, when I checked in there was no record of this but they accomodated us anyway. Our room faced north so we didn't have a view of the CN Tower but how much time do you really spend looking out your window?
The Hilton is nicely situated in downtown Toronto within walking distance of the Osgoode subway stop, the shops on Queen St. and the Eaton Center. The room was spacious, the beds comfortable. The shower was fine, toiletries included soap, bath gel, shampoo and conditioner (a rarity these days), big towels and there was a hair dryer in the bathroom. There was a small refrigerator but it was fully stocked with overpriced minibar items so it wasn't much use. There was no in-room safe. My roomie, Ellielou, spends enough time at Hiltons that she's a "special guest" so she brought us all up to the Executive Lounge to enjoy drinks in the evening and breakfast in the morning.
