Niagara Falls Marathon

by mary50

Can you please advise if the Niagara Marathon is on Sunday 24th? If so will this cause a problem for us driving down there from Toronto?. Also we are staying at the Embassy, will there be a problem getting to that hotel? and finally if it is on will it stop us being able to do any of the attractions ie maid of the mist ( I believe Sunday is the last day of the Season ) we really do want to do this? thanks for any help or guidance..

You can probably find some of the answers you need here, I don't know how many people run this one but I can tell you that here in Chicago on marathon day, traffic can get very screwed up if you happen to be driving along the course. The link I gave you has the course, try to avoid it if during the marathon hours as they have the streets blocked off for hours before, during and after

Yes, it is next Sunday the 24th. Check http://niagarafallsmarathon.com/ for details. Based on the limited course map http://niagarafallsmarathon.com/course.htm it appears to start in the US and finish at the Falls.

Driving will most likely be problematic at the falls and around the area, but depending on when you plan to arrive it might be tolerable. I didn't see any comments about the Maid being impacted other than from the crowds coming to watch the finish.

FREEWAY SIGNS TO NIAGARA FALLS AND ON TO NYC.

by listenandlearn

Below are photos taken on the freeway to Niagara Falls and sign road on to the BIG APPLE! For those who have not been here, perhaps it will give you an idea how efficient the road signs are here in America, they surely will give you enough warning when to exit which is very helpful lessen the driving accidents and you need not to make sudden change of lanes...Well, also with the help of GPS, it surely is highly recommendable now a days...Enjoy the photos signs... Signs are very efficient and well lite at nights and when rain comes, they are large enough for drivers with poor eye sight...

Enjoy summer by the water

I don't do it often enough.. the Aug 24th mini-meeting reminded me of it... but walking down by the harbourfront is terrific. Toronto is built on the shores of Lake Ontario, but sometimes we forget all about the lake. It could be because it is so hard to see the water with all the condominium buildings between the lake and the rest of the city. However, it is great to sit and eat on one of the patios at Queen's Quay (pronounced Key) watching the people walking by and the water traffic. As the evening darkens, enjoy the lights of the ferries, and the harbour cruise boats. If I had only thought to take a picture of the waterfront, and not just the people I was with!

The native name Toronto was...

by Tolik

The native name Toronto was reinstated in 1834, when incorporated as a city, but a western city’s district keeps this name. When the Erie Canal was completed in 1825, Toronto no longer had to rely on Montreal as a port of entry but could use New York, the beginning of an American tie which has remained important ever since.

Tips help here!

by klubkidd80

Waitstaff and barstaff do rely on tips here as part of their wages. It is customary to leave a little extra in a club, retaurant and/or cafe if you've ordered something. The standard rate is about 15%. Of course, this is to your discretion and you can leave more or less depending on how good the service was.
