Am I going to be bored?!

by soulmeetsbody

So my friend has moved to Toronto from England for a year and I've decided to book myself out there for a month!
June 15th - July 18th!
The only thing is, I think she'll still be working ( she has like 2 or 3 jobs!)so we'll only be able to do touristy things on her days off, if she hasn't already done them!
We're planning on going to Edge Fest and Warped Tour, but other than that, I have no idea what I'll be doing out there? haha
Can someone give me tips on what to do with my time, even if it is alone?!

Also, it's my 21st birthday on 8th july, any ideas on what to do/where to go?

Thanks, Bex
x

Niagara Falls is very near Toronto and you will have lots of fun there dear, trust me, especially in the summer. So don't fret, make sure you allow a few days there because there are other attractions at Niagara. Nightlife should be good there too, trust me! Enjoy!

Otherwise, climb the CN tower, you'll see a lot of the city, then venture to the suburbs. Also, unless you're sport mad, that's most of what people in Toronto do I think,LOL!

Cheers!

Toronto is a wonderful city with lots of little things happening all the time. Just walk around (assuming you're located in the downtown area)

Do some road trips from Toronto. Go to Ottowa, Montreal, and Quebec City.

Just so you won't underestimate, the suggested road trips to Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City are long drives. Round trip to Ottawa is 500 miles, Montreal round trip is 670 miles and Quebec City round trip is 980 miles. Happy driving!

Hello,

This is a response to "satossa" and the happy driving comment. You are making the assumption that a 20 year old British girl can drive here and would be renting a car. I recommend making the "road trip" to Ottawa, Montreal, and Quebec city as a multi-city VIA train tour with stopovers. I just did a quick search and a circuit of Toronto-Ottawa-Montreal-Quebec-Toronto with stopovers could cost only $250 if booked in advance with special fares.

Travel Tips for Toronto

Currency

by Huncher2

Of course the exchange rate is great with US dollars. But be warned, you probably need to bring some hard currency with you when you arrive at the airport. None of the ATM machines in the airpot accept Visa cards, and I also found that my Checkcard or ATM didn't work either. So you should bring along enough cash for transportation to your hotel. After you leave the hotel though, all of the other ATMs had no trouble accepting my bankcard.....

Great Theater it's like the Broadway of Canada! See a game or just take a tour of Skydome. Take a ride up to the top of the CN tower. Beauty and the Beast the musical at the Princess of Wales Theater.

Yonge Street: One very long street!

by Martman

Yonge street is supposed to be the longest street in the world. It starts at Lake Ontario and goes north, cutting the city Toronto into two sides. It is not easy to describe the street because it is so long! It goes through downtown, residential areas, farmland etc. I chose to make a travelogue on this magnificent street. Eaton Centre

Shop at the EATON CENTRE: One of the most beautiful shopping centres in Canada. Here, you can shop at leisure, have coffee at Second Cup (extremely good Iced Moccachino, love it!) and just relax... Remember to buy some Roots sweatshirts for those at home!

Toronto is the most diverse city in the world

by stuckie

Although Miami has a higher percentage of people who are foriegn born, Toronto has more people of different nationalities and backgrounds. People expect differences rather than similarities. Don't be surprised if they think you live here rather than being a tourist. Some 40% of the city is not born in Canada and increasingly are being labelled 'visible minorities' due to their country of origin, like China and India.

An expectation of English language is expected. Few Torontonians speak French, so a knowledge of English is vital. In certain boroughs of the city, you might be okay with just a knowledge of Cantonese, Italian, Portuguese, Korean or Greek languages.

Tread lightly on topics of differences between Canada and US and the rest of the world. Torontonians are often referred to as the 'centre of the universe' by Western Canadians because most once they live here, do not move outside of the area.

Still talk of Torontonians being the most unfriendly people are exaggerated. Any big city in the world has such a reputation. If you are lost, most will be happy to help you find your way.
