Rock Island Lodge is directly on Lake Superior, the only lodging within 100 miles of Wawa Ontario on the lake. It has four rooms, all very clean and modern and all with private bath. There is no TV which is a wonderful thing. There are no phones in the room, which is another wonderful thing. Breakfast is included in the room rate. Lunch and dinner can be arranged.
The views from the Lodge are simply incredible. The walk out onto the rocks, watching the sunset, or a stroll on their private beach, all unequaled and unexpected. This is a very friendly place, a place where you will meet other friendly people, and it is surely easy going.
It is on the same grounds as Naturally Superior Adventures, so you can also arrange kayak, canoe rental or lessons or trips by very knowledgeable staff.
This is a find. Let us hope it does not get spoiled. Come here for nature, beauty, calm, doing a little fishing from the rocks, a little reading on their deck, a little sleeping on the beach, or a lot of hiking and canoeing at the many places nearby.
Views are tremendous, and I mean tremendous. The Michipicoten river runs beside the property emptying into Superior right at the Lodge. A short canoe ride and you are on Driftwood Beach, part of Michipicoten Provincial Park. This is a good mile of empty big beautiful beach.
The rooms all have great views, unsurpassed. The place is unblievably quiet in the evening, and all you can hear is surf.
There is a private beach, but of course the water is a bit cool.
Rent a canoe or kayak, tour the lake or float down a river.
