Safety in Windsor and Other questions

by sabogg01

Next weekend my friend and I are coming to Windsor (We are two 25 y/o females) does anyone have a certain area that they would like to recommend a hotel as far as being safe places to stay in. We only want to stay in the safe neighborhoods, is there anywhere that we should look out for while sightseeing? We will be crossing over from Detroit on the Ambassador Bridge.
Would it be better to stay in Windsor for 2 nights or stay in Detroit and visit Windsor for a day and then go back to Detroit? We are not looking to go to casinos or to drink on this trip. Thanks for your advice in advance!

Well we have decided we may like to go to the Casino and play slots....but we just want to be safe :)
We are interested in parks, museums, historical landmarks, shopping, etc.
We also want to know if there are any good sightseeing boat tours?
As far as safety, we want to go down to the riverwalk at night and see the detroit skyline. Is this usually a well lit populated area to do so?
Any input is appreciated. :) :)

Windsor is pretty safe in general. Anwhere in the city is relatively safe compared to michigan.

As long as you don't get drunk in the bars or kiss drunk boys, it is pretty safe. Stay in Windsor - do not be tempted and go across the border into Detroit, where it is very dangerous.

Travel Tips for Windsor

Windsor's Weather

by windsorgirl

A word about the weather in Windsor....the winter's are usually fairly mild by Canadian standards, some winters we get very little snow to speak of.

Springtime is beautiful with new leaves budding from the trees and showy flowering shrubs and spring bulbs. However, spring can be very wet.

Summers are notoriously hot and humid. Very humid, so be forewarned. Air conditioning is a must have in your car or hotel!

However, fall is perfect. It can still be warm with an Indian Summer, or else it will be cool and crisp with bright sunny days. This is my favourite time of year in Windsor.

JAMES BABY 1763 -1833

by LoriPori

The first member of Upper Canada's French community to gain prominence in government circles was JAMES BABY. Baby was born in British-controlled Detroit. The son of a well established trader, he was educated in Quebec and after returning to this area, entered the mercantile business. Baby moved from Detroit to the South shore and in 1807 took up residence in this 18th century house, now known as the DUFF-BABY HOUSE.

Crossing the border

by Dabs

Don't forget to bring your passport or other accepted documents with you to cross the border, they will not let you in without them. The current accepted documents in addition to a passport can be found on the US State Department's website

ATM cards and credit cards are widely accepted at Canada and the exchange rate is currently almost even with the USD so at some places you can probably use USD, especially near the border
