Travel Tips for Jonquière

VISIT 'RIVIERE DES SABLES'...

by Simonneeddy

VISIT 'RIVIERE DES SABLES' WHERE THE FLOOD ALSO DID A LOT OF DAMAGE WHICH HAS BEEN REPAIRED BY BUILDING A PARK ALL ALONG THE RIVER.Aug 15, 2000. First picture is at the main entrance to the Riviere Des Sables-- a park along the river front dedicated to all the 'French Nations' in the World with commemorative cards and a 'FLAG' of each on the light poles all along the bike path and walk way.

There is a pavilion with restaurant and boutiques, an aluminum bridge ( which is a rare item ) for bikes and foot travel only. This is lighted up at night and is great to see.

There are flowers all along the walking and Bike paths and the river banks were being cleaned and flowers etc. planted along the banks. You can also rent paddle boats etc.

A very delightful restful place in the sun. See Photos that follow OUR WALK ALONG THE BIKE PATH AT THE RIVIERE DES SABLES (SAND RIVER in English)

THIS WHOLE AREA WAS REBUILT AFTER THE GREAT FLOOD OF 1996 and made into a park and bike path. ( pictures of the flood below) SEE THE ALUMINUM BRIDGE which is so beautifully lighted at night. It is for bikes and foot traffic only and was dedicated by ALCAN after the great flood. WALKING THE BIKE PATH ALONG THIS RIVER ' LA RIVIERE DES SABLES'

'Le Centre National...

by Simonneeddy

VISIT 'Le Centre National D'exposition JACOB (built in 1940) 'Dudley The Dragon'. Marionettes and puppets. The exposition is called ( Strings springs and finger things) from the collection of the Ontario Puppetry association, on loan to this museum. In other rooms were paintings by CANADIAN ARTISTS. The great view from here of JONQUIERE as we were near the mountain top. We were unable to go to the summit as the road was under repair.

The friendliest people on earth

by ChuckG

Sagueneens as they're called are known to be among the friendliest people you will ever meet. Put your big city bubble aside and mingle with the locals. Whenever I go there, I am always amazed how the service is good and the people are so nice. Plus, their regional accent is beautiful, hundred years of isolation has made this part of Quebec unique in its culture, language and customs.

Saguenay Inn (Manoir du Saguenay)

by ChuckG

Build in 1939 by the Alcan aluminum company, this impressive stone mansion served the purpose of guest house, hotel as well as entertainment center for the executive of the company. A superb golf course is close by. The architecture resembles one of a French castle and the interior is very nice with crafting and nice furniture.

Ask a local how to get there, it's one of the pride of the city...
