Visiting Montreal in August

by timewaster

I am planning to visit Montreal either the weekend of Aug 1-5 or Aug 8-12.
What festivals/activities are going on during those 2 weeks?

You can visit: www.whatsonwhen.com. It's a world-wide, (larger cities), site, so it can be quite useful. Enjoy your visit. Gary

hi,
a good thing would be to go to www.hour.ca
a culturel newspaper for Montreal
you will find many things
but for what you are looking for:
on the right side you have music, film, stage, art
you click on one of them
and then on the left side you will have a calendar .. so you choose date you want

Travel Tips for Montreal

Old-Montréal (Vieux Montreal)

by sunnywong

The oldest part of the city, is adjacent to the downtown area. Its old buildings, Notre-Dame church for example, are part of the city's invaluable heritage. The Old Port, which is part of Old Montréal is located on the Saint Lawrence. The Musée d'archéologie et d'histoire Pointe-à-Callière occupies the site of the original village, founded in 1642. A visit to this cellars of the impressive building takes you into Montréal's very first sewers. An exhibition has been set up there which retraces the history of Montréal, from the era of the early Amerindians to modern day.

The Haunted House

by ct-bound

This building caught my attention for obvious reasons! It is called La Maison Hantee (The Haunted House), and is some kind of dinner theatre.

I never went in, but I bet it would be a lot of fun - apparently it's a bit pricey though ($45). It's located in the downtown area of Montreal (centre-ville), 1037 Bleury St (At de la Gauchetière). Metro stop Place d'Armes.

Another claim to fame,...

by gayguy17

Another claim to fame, Montreal boasts several top festivals every year. The most successful is The Montreal International Jazz Festival. Every first week in July, Montreal welcomes the best Jazz Musicians to her streets. Though many concerts are held in the Place des Arts complex, and other clubs and theaters, Montreal closes off to traffic several sections of streets in the central-eastern part of the city for the whole week. Peaceful crowds gather for free concerts all day and evening long. The atmosphere is easy-going and friendly. Besides the Jazz Festival, coming right on its' heels is the Just for Laughs Festival - Festival juste pour rire! Same idea, is almost always something happening on the streets of Montreal in the spring-summer months.

Poutine, fast food of Quebec

by meteorologist1

You have to try the poutine, which is considered fast food in Quebec and eastern Canada. Look for it at any fast food restaurant there. It consists of french fries, cheese curds, and gravy. I must warn that this dish may be a little heavy for some people.
