Auberge Les Passants du Sans Soucy: Without worries
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • We've stayed at l'Auberge Les passants du Sans Soucy (translate the "peddlers without worries") for only one night but it was fabulous. The service, the room, the very generous breakfast, everything was perfect. If you want a nice romantic place in the heart of Old Montreal, this is the Inn for you.

Impossible to be disapointed, you will always remember the two hosts with their dog and the lovely settings. The rooms also are unique and absolutely marvelous.

A nice romantic hotel for those of you who want to treat yourself. This is a unique chance to stay in an typical historical building at the heart of the Old Montreal. Staying there, you'll think you are a king or a queen. The architecture and furnitures are absolutely marvelous and the service is impecable.

You won't find another place like this...

Very well located in the middle of the Old Port (also 5 minutes of walk from Quartier Latin district, 10 minutes from the downtown area) and so gorgeous.

Marriott Chateau Champlain: Great place if yr company pays and you don't smoke   Compare Rates NEW!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Pros: Gorgeous view, an awesome bed, excellent housekeeping, free lox and bagels at the VIP lounge upstairs (but i think you need status or to pay extra for access), and really good water pressure in the shower, central location

Cons: You're not allowed to smoke anywhere in the hotel (this is a pro for some people), limited TV

    Damn, that shower was good.

Holiday Inn Select Montreal Centre Ville: Place to stay in Montreal   Compare Rates NEW!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • The price is lower than other hotels in the city centre. I like this place, because I can easily walk to old town, the port, and to many shops and restaurants in St. Catherine or other streets.

Its on the edge of Chinatown, and the hotel has a strong Chinese influence in decoration. There is a good Chinese restaurant inside the building where you can enjoy DimSum.

Chateau De L'argoat: Cleanest Hotel I've ever stayed at
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • I stayed here in late Feb of 2006. Not only was the location excellent (near St. Denis), but it was the cleanest hotel I've ever stayed at. And this was the off-season!
The room was small, but nicely decorated and worth every penny. Especially since they offer free parking.

Good location - 5 minute walk to St. Denis, Sherbrooke metro station.
    Free parking
    Breakfast included
The owner is very nice and accomodating.
    Super clean

SpringHill Suites by Marriott Old Montreal: Old Port Suites   Compare Rates NEW!

  • Due to a delayed flight we did not arrive at the hotel until 1:30 AM. We were pleased to find out that this was not a problem at all and our room was being held until 3:00 AM. Valet service was still available in the early morning. Our room was an executive suite with a king size bed and a nice terrace. It practically had three separate rooms in a relatively small space. 1) office with a desk and chair and FREE high speed internet access. A mini food service area with a small fridge, microwave, coffee maker and sink was included. It only had coffee mugs and glasses but I'm sure the hotel service would provide plates and silverware if needed.

    2) The next room was a sitting room with a reclining chair, sofa, coffee table and television. A door off of this room led to a large terrace with a small table and chair set. The view was not wonderful but it did allow a nice treat to sit outdoors.

    3) The sleeping area contained a HARD king-sized bed, a small closet with an iron. There were two telephones in the suite and two televisions. Our stay was after the Daylight Savings time change and the clock in the room was never adjusted. Since we arrived so late we did not realize it until my husband got up to go to work and he arrived an hour ahead of schedule. The bathroom was rather large and had a tub and shower.

Overall my impression of the hotel is a good one. There is a FREE continental breakfast each morning. Somethings to improve upon would have to be the mattress and the bleach smelling towels. Even for two people there was not enough drawer space. I loved how easy it was to connect the high speed internet and the conceirge was very helpful and friendly.

    Plateau Mont-Royal: Fabulous Self-Contained Apartment
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • We found this lovely apartment on the internet. Never having been to Canada before and not knowing the areas around Montreal a it's a bit hit and miss when booking somewhere that hasn't been recommended. However, we hit on a winner. Our one bedroom apartment was on a quiet street but only five minutes walk from all the action of rue Denis, rue St Laurent and the bustling rue Prince Arthur with its restaurants, cafe and street entertainment. The apartment was superbly equipt with everything you could possibly need. It had a pull out spring sofa-bed in the living area and the biggest high definition plasma screen TV I have ever seen.

    Sleeps 4/5
    Fantastic location
    washing machine and dryer
outdoor patio with barbeque and loungers
lovely welcome basket of cereal, coffee, tea, sugar, popcorn, nuts, also juice, milk and bottled water in fridge.
bathroom drawer full of goodies such as soap, deoderant, shampoo, body lotion, bath crystals, shower gel and more

Hotel Maritime Plaza: On the Small Side   Compare Rates NEW!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • We stayed at the Maritime in the summer of 2003. It is a very small hotel with very small rooms. The room was nicely decorated and the bed was comfy.

If you like room service don't pick the Meritime. My husband and I attempted on several occasions to order room service but each time we were told that the kitchen was closed. The Kitchen seemed to always be closed regardless of the time of day.

There is a nice Indian Restaurant next door and you are within walking distance of many shops.

Definitely try to stay at a bed and breakfast. They are often more affordable than hotels, and most include a full French breakfast with homemade croissants and jams. Best of all, you'll be able to meet people from all over the world. Some of the most interesting guests I met were a businessman from Zurich, two generations from Vancouver, a couple from Thailand, and a beekeeper from Vermont.

The Hotel St-Denis is in my opinion one of the most comfortable small European style hotels I have ever stayed at. The staff were helpful, friendly and talkative whether you spoke English or French. The rooms were small, but went to great lengths to make you comfortable. The location of the St-Denis perhaps is the best; not only are you comfortable, but you are also right in the middle of literally everything.

Clean rooms, great beds, nice bathrooms, good staff, great location, and nice 1920s atmosphere. If I am ever in Montreal again, L'hotel St-Denis will be my first place of choice.
