We liked the Clarion. We had a nice big room overlooking the City down to the waterfront. The only thing is its undergoing a major facelift (which no on e told us about) and its noisy from quite early - it didnt really bother us as we are out for most of the day anyway. Staff were friendly enough though, not always able to cash my travellers cheques - they dont seem to keep much cash on the premises.

If you plan to be in Montreal for a while and you want a comfortable saty without spending too much, look up the Clarion Suites on deMaisonneuve. It is not a hotel per se, but more like a short-term apartment. Most suites have a kitchen, which allows you to do some grocery shopping and cooking. Meanwhile, maids still clean up bathrooms and beds. It's a nice alternative to hotels.
Alternatively, there are a number of people in the city who offer short term rentals and a lot of them are online. Unless you know the city, though, you might be taking chances. Do your home work...!
