More about Auberge Saint Antoine

Auberge St Antoine is a very special place!

by TripAdvisor Member dld8

Just got back from a 5day-4 night stay at Auberge Saint-Antoine and thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

We had a wonderful view of the St Lawrence, our own terrace (there was no sharing in our location?). The bathrooms were just as I read, great shower, sunken tub and loved the radiant heat. The bedding was very comfortable and loved the turndown service. Also thought they planned out the location of the closets well, felt like they were almost like walk-ins based on their location in the room.

The staff was very accomodating (assisted with all dinner recommendations and reservations) and loved the neat little hideawys throughout the hotel - very romantic! Will definitely be back and really enjoyed our time at L'Auberge St Antione!

Fabulous....Fabulous....Fabulous!!!

by TripAdvisor Member stormyscarlett

We decided on the Auberge Saint-Antoine based on the reviews by "real people" on the net. We arrived and were somewhat confused by a modest, charming room river view room, but the bathroom had a linoleum floor (where were the heated tile floors?) and the carpet was a bit in need of repair, etc. This was not what we had heard about this hotel! We stayed in the room for the first night and when the shower wouldn't drain properly, my husband decided it was time to call the front desk and request another room. We were told that we were in an "ancient" room. Who knew?? We were so delighted with our move to a room on the fifth floor looking up at the Frontenac. It was like we had changed hotels there was such a vast difference between the rooms. The new room had the tiled, heated bathroom floors, a fabulous room with wonderful amenities and a large deck with adirondack chairs for a nice relaxing glass of wine before dinner. We have travelled extensively and this is one of the best hotels ever. We stay at five star hotels as a rule and are spoiled, but this hotel is right up there. We now know that requesting a river view room is apparently at the risk of getting an "ancient" room. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating and this hotel is very well located. We will absolutely go back to this great find.

A Gem in Old Quebec

by TripAdvisor Member tower

Having been to many parts of Canada, but never Quebec, my wife and I looked forward to the visit. Some of our friends who wouldn't know a budget if it bit them in the ear, all suggested the venerable Chateau Frontenac, Quebec's very old and world renowned hostelry. Rates in the high 200's (USD) didn't appeal to us. We pride ourselves in searching out and finding delightful boutiquey-like inns, etc. around the world (been to 49 countries)..at reasonable rates. We have a Top-Ten list whcih we share on the Travel Message board periodically. Our search at Barnes and Noble (my private library!) and on the internet turned up the Auberge Saint Antoine in the Lower Village of Quebec. It did not disappoint in the slightest, and after four nights, it made our "prestigious" Top Ten list ...in fact within the top five! Service, ambience, location, room, river view, all superb. The rate was $130 USD. Frankly, quite unbelievable. We recommend without hesitation! Ask for Room 402..what aview!
(p.s.Visiting the Frontenac, the old maiden seemed run-down and seedy, and quite stuffy..we made an excellent choice!)

a classic place

by TripAdvisor Member Falkirkgirl

We stayed here for three nights mid October 2004. We had a room overlooking the river which for some of the time had spectacular views of the ocean liners which had called! The room was very spacious more like a mini suite and wanted for no additional extras. Housekeeping was efficient as was room service.

From the moment we arrived we felt that nothing was too much trouble. All of the staff were unobtrusive but were always there just when you needed assitance right down to valet parking (which is underneath the hotel and quite secure - the theme of showing you some of the excavation work is carried through into the car park. You get very interesting little snipets of information and detail throughout the hotel about the history of this renovation (some of it several centuries old!)).

The light menu served in the lobby area is very good and reasonably priced. We unfortunately did not eat in the restaurant - no availability, but it looked very cosy. Being October it was a little cold outside and the roaring fires in the seating areas were very welcoming.

The situation of the hotel is perfect, while outside the city wall it is only a stone's throw and really is in the heart of things.

The hotel has a very peaceful and relaxed feel to it and I could find no fault with the hotel and would return if I were to find myself back in Quebec.

Do not miss this one

by TripAdvisor Member mikedoylestown

We have been traveling for 37 years. This Auberge was fantastic, and probably one of the top two hotels we have ever stayed at. Very European, contemporary, three lobby fireplaces, nooks brimming with historical artifacts. Excellent, friendly, very helpful staff. Our room was unbelievable. Dimmers on every light, goose down comforters, a private rooftop patio, heated bathroom floor, the largest bathtub I have ever soaked in. Cozy, comfortable, a truly great escape.
Do not miss Panache, the restaurant at the Auberge. Exposed stone walls, rough hewn beams, fantastic food beautifully presented, over 20 bottled waters and an extensive wine list.
Close to old Quebec, shopping, restaurants, galleries and more. The Chateau was nice...this far outshines it. Was truly difficult to leave.
Do yourself a favor, and don't pass this one by.

close to the good restaurants

What is all the fuss about?

by TripAdvisor Member FranceSandrine

we are staying at the St Antoine, and I was expecting a lot from this hotel after reading all the reviews.

First, the breakfast: on sunday, we were greeted by unwellcoming staff and we had the worst breakfast I had for a long time: no co-salled home made muffins - rather industrial ones. No home made bread as stated on the menu. And most of all some pastries that must have been from 2 days before. All that for a hefty 15 USD.

We complained and were told we were not the only ones. Where are the beautiful breakfast that everybody is talking about on Tripadvisor? Could St antoine let the standards go lower?

Cleaning of the bedroom is average: the beautiful throw on the bed had several stains on it. After 2 days we asked to have it removed as they turn it around and new stains (that we did not make!) appeared. As of today, no new clean throw has been put in.

We had to ask for the bedroon to be cleaned again yesterday 2 times when we realised that they did not clean the wooden floors - meaning with all the snow you bring back from outside, the wooden floors were all grey and they did not bother to clean it! they have not cleaned the bathroom floor since we arrived.
We tried the cafe for a light snack the first day. Our soups arrived nearly cold, but were nice.
The restaurant is very nice, and yes, the rooms are nice, although they do not tell you that the terraces are shared with other bedrooms - I would have liked to have been told if that was in the summer.

I would recommend a view of the river - the view of the old town is not exceptional as you only see part of it, and you see quite a lot of uninspiring walls. If you come in the winter do ask for a room with foyer.

All in all disappointing especially as we have to go outside every morning to have a breakfast (warm pancakes not available at the hotel anyway and for half the price). Having been to other nice hotels, this one is disappointing, may be this is what you get for a 4 stars these days.

You won't be disappointed!!!!!!!!

My husband and I just returned from a 2 night stay at the Saint Antoine. We had a fabulous little trip. The staff at the hotel are very helpful. They made so many dinner reservations for us. They also give good driving directions, jusy make sure your husband can follow them .... One of the restaurants that we highly recommend is the Saint Amour. The bathroom in our room exceeded our expectations. The soaking tub was sensational!!

Have a great trip!

amazing St. Antoine

by TripAdvisor Member priva

Just had our first visit to Quebec City and stayed at the Saint-Antoine after having checked it out with TripAdvisor.

It was fantastic! Perfectly situated, in the lower city right on the harbour, it fits the description 'boutique hotel'. A major extension has been added to the original historic building and it is fabulous. They have cleverly used relics salvaged from excavation as part of their design scheme.

The bathroom is almost a separate apartment: heated floor - the whole works. Many extras: robes, complimentary Knerps umbrellas in each room for use during the stay (I ended up buying one - $30!), proper ice bucket, cork screw and wine glasses, etc.

Many kinds of lighting, both mood and task with private reading sconces at each side of the bed. CD player, so bring your tunes. Luxurious duvet and linens plus plenty of towels.

One tiny complaint - the breakfast is $15 per head and offers less than the Hampton Inn in Niagara Falls. Eat elsewhere.

A note about the price - it is listed everywhere as a very expensive room, but we got it for $150 CAD through Expedia. I may regret having told you this.

Taxi from Airport to Auberge Saint-Antoine

by ilya74

Hello! We will be landing at Quebec (YQB) airport on Wednesday, August 1 at 23:32 (11:33pm).
1. Is it possible to find a taxi at that time?
2. How much should the taxi cost?
3. Can anyone suggest a decent place to eat around Auberge Saint-Antoine that will still be open past midnight?

Thank you in advance.

Hi! There should be taxis waiting at the airport, but if not you can either ask the airport staff to call one up for you or there should be a direct phone line near the exit. The flat rate to get downtown is $30. I'm pretty sure most restaurants will be closed in the Petit Champlain area, but if you go up to the Chateau Frontenac, you might be able to find a few pubs with their kitchen still open (you can try Pub d'Orsay: http://www.restaurantpubdorsay.com/index.html or Saint-Alexandre: http://www.pubstalexandre.com/en.html). Hope this helps, have a great trip!

The taxi is indeed 30$ flat rate and they will be waiting outside as you exit the airport. Don't let them take you for a ride. They've been known to try to pull a fast one on tourists here and there (e.g. claim fares are more expensive after 11 pm)

For food here's a suggestion. Less than a 5-minute walk from your hotel, there is a pub called Linox which brews its own beer and serves food all night (http://www.inox.qc.ca/eng/eng_accueil.html). Nothing fancy but it should do the trick and the beer is great. Take a left as you exit the hotel, take immediately a right on the first street you cross and walk all the way to the end of that street and the Linox is right there to your right.

Have fun.
