How many days on the average is the temperature below freezing in Quebec during the winter months?

Re: gardnerrobertc

by Jefie

During winter months? All of them! Temperatures usually fall below 0ºC in early December and stay below the freezing point until April, except for a few days here and there.

Aw, I knew I'd regret checking the answer! Until April? Argh!

Uh, Canada in the winter? All of the months - see you in May.

Unless you want to visit Quebec during the Winter Carnival (January 28 to February 13, 2011), I would suggest you wait for warmer weather. May through September work for me and the crowds are smallest in May and September.

Travel Tips for Quebec

a little less time consuming

by ScottHurl

It is better(and faster) to do both bus then train. Take a bus to Montreal, then take a train to Quebec City. Between the bus and train station in Montreal you will have to take a taxi or hop on the metro(subway). When you take the train across the border it usually gets behind schedule. Quebec City is about 3 to 3 and half hours from Montreal by train. Our train system is called VIA in Canada. I hope this all makes sense.

The Quebec Province has a lot to offer from Montreal and Quebec to the remote natural areas of the north and Mont Tremblant in the south. What I liked about Quebec was how close it was and the beauty of the area. The affordability of everything was a great plus too. Also, a lot of places accepted US dollars and gave Canadian change which was very convenient. If you like to ski, you must go to Mont tremblant, it's the closest thing to west coast skiing on the east coast. Mont Tremblant was my fondest memory of Quebec because there was such great skiing and the nightlife at the village rocked!

The entire city!

Just wander. You'll inevitably end up in the giant tourist vortex that is the Château Frontenac and Terrasse Dufferin (for more photos of this lovely building, see the travelogue). But on the way, make sure to slow town and savor the European atmosphere, so rare and precious in postmodern North America.

Brush up on your French. In QC, French is the dominant language, unlike in Montreal where it's half French and half English. However, English is common in QC - most of the people that I met spoke English. But, it's kinda cool to talk to people in their native tongue. I wish that I hadn't let my French slip so I could have practiced it when I was in Quebec. A plus tard.

Packing List

by sirpantsalot

A small backpack for treking around the old city. High heels just don't make sense here ladies. Wear sturdy shoes for hiking or sneakers. Some of the hills are very steep. Carry a drink. Sometimes its hard to find an inexpensive place to grab a drink when you need it. A coffee is $3.00 in many places and it's served so don't forget plus tip. At 4.00 a pop it can chew up your budget fast. A better photographer. Why did I take the pic with a no parking sign in it?
