whale watching

by ciara.girl

planning a trip to Saguenay area for whale watching...........what is the best time to go ?

Re: whale watching

by nanmadol

Whale watching is done between May and October mostly at the junction of the Saguenay fjord and the St-Lawrence River. Here is a link of a local tourist board who are listing of operators who do whale watching operations.

Click on activities, and then whale watching. You should find all you need to know on this page.

If you want to really feel the elements, go on a zodiac tour, but expect to get wet.

Travel Tips for Quebec

Need to go? Best public toilet experience!

by Joseph69

I had the pleasure of taking my "number two's" (well, I was a little desperate... I usually do those in homes or hotels) at the cleanest and best toilet (bathroom) I have ever used outside of hotels and homes!

It's uni-sex, but it's extremely clean, and above all... free!

Thank You to those who arranged this important item. Many cities and nations underestimate the importance of nice, clean toilets (bathrooms).

It's located in the Old Port (Vieux-Port) area... in the western side about a 2 or 3 minute walk from the funicular entrance.

Quebec Tip

What do I miss when I am not in Quebec or Canada ... quite simply the stunning beauty and variety of the land. The quiet places, the shores and lakes the wonderful mountains and the cities with their marvellous museums - and even more the friendly and helpful people!

Quebecers are proud to say they produce a lot of musicians for the number of people... On her Vt Montréal Page, Kindra enthusiastically talk about Québec's music. I would add this alternative groups site who give some place to talented beginners... Take a visit from time to time, you may find someone pleasing your ears !
For more folkloric taste go to CD 'la Bottine souriante'. It is tough for floors when quebecers hear that !
Finally, for french song's lyrics there is a nice site !
And... just for my friends JORANE

Well, you can probably get by...

by dzni

Well, you can probably get by fine without any problems without a knowledge of French or some romance language. If you're paranoid, bring a French translation book. ;) But be warned, little English is spoken here, but there are a number of signs that are in English, and just ask for an English menu in any restaurant. You'll be fine! ;) Note that road signs aren't in English though.

Packing List

by chicoutai

A back pack if you are doing a lot of walking and shopping at the same time... Good shoes for walk, the streets are very old at some places and not good for high heels...
The weather: I suggest you before you leave to check on the average weather for the time of the year that you plan on going. In winter be prepared for COLD COLD VERY COLD weather and bring extra layers and warm boots. Many films or take an extra digital card with you! Dictionnary French-English and a Convertion guide for the metric system if you are not familiar with it.
