quebec for 2 days
by vickyjf
We will be arriving in a cruiseship on tuesday Oct 16th, for one night.I would like some advise as where to go in such a little time. Is there any hop on hop off buses? What will be the cheapest and easiest way to sightseeing? Also how far is the port from downtown? Thanks a lot for your help

The great thing about Quebec City is that the port is located right in the old city, so it'll be very easy to walk from your cruiseship to most tourist attractions. The old city is not very big so you can easily walk around it on your own - you can pick up a free tour guide at the Info Center located in front of Chateau Frontenac. It includes a self-guided waking tour and that would definitely be the cheapest way to visit the city. Another option would be to go on a bus tour (you could try http://www.toursvieuxquebec.com/).
Hope this helps, feel free to e-mail me if you need more info. Have a great trip!

Hi Vicky,
As stated earlier, everything is pretty much walking distance from the Old Port. You may want to spend some time strolling in Place Royale and then move up to Chateau Frontenac and walk around from there toward whatever draws your attention.
If you have time for dinner, you may wnat to check out my Quebec page for a few tips on restaurants. If you only have time ofr a drink, you may want to go to L'Inox, a quaint lttle pub that brews its own beer (less than a 5-minute walk from the cruise ships) or Pub St-Alexandre up on St-Jean street.
If you have specific requests, don't hesitate to write.
Enjoy Quebec City!
Travel Tips for Quebec

At night, stroll through the cobble-stone streets of Old Quebec. When the neighbourhood is ambiently lit with the clop of hooves in the background, you will swear that you are in another era. My fondest memory was celebrating St.Jean Baptiste Day (Quebec's national holiday) with a francophone family. I was lucky enough to be boarding with a Quebecois family, so we spent the evening singing and playing traditional folksongs. Talk about getting down with the locals!

In quebec you allready know that we speak french so a good tip is to remember all the words that you know from english. In that book you have all of them. you dont have to learn the words because you have them in mind allready . Here are a few exemples of what i mean by that. Table in english is the same, hotel, cigarettes, cigars, route, securité etc. By all restaurants the menus are in both languages and the price are visible. Alors a bientot j espere
Winter Activity Accessories!
by jamiesno
I would just remember if coming for the Carnaval to bring water proof boots to keep your feet dry, a warm hat, snow pants, gloves, all your normal winter gear. Don't worry if you forget something because there will be plenty of places to buy official Carnaval gear :-) Just because you might be staying in the center of Quebec for business I think you need to know you can skate at several places right in Old Quebec as you see in this picture. So you might want to bring along your own skates or your own skiis.
Right in the middle of the city is Battlefield Park and 15 km of trails are laid out for the benefit of cross-country skiers, beginners or intermediate. There is also a ski skating course. A ski waxing room and a heated relay are also at your disposal.
Carnaval de Quebec # 11 - Giant Soccer Game

I guess by now you are getting the feel for the types of activities that are at the Carnaval.
Here in this picture is the giant soccer game. This was always popular I enjoyed watching the games when they were there with the megaphone.
