new years eve in quebec

by alikers

We are staying at the Chateau Frontenac for NYE, there are 5 of us, including two 50 year olds and three 25 year olds. Any ideas where to go? Any restaurants offering entertainment close by. The hotel has 2 parties but neither appeal to us.

Hi! Last year there was a huge party on Grande Allée, but I'm not sure if they're doing it again this year - at least, I haven't heard anything about it yet. It looks like there's gonna be a blues show at Pub Saint-Alexandre (http://www.pubstalexandre.com) and there usually is live Irish music at Pub Saint-Patrick - both are located within walking distance from the Chateau. Many restaurants in the area also offer a special New Year's Eve menu even if they don't offer entertainment. If you'd like, you could send me an e-mail in a week or two and I should be able to give you more info at that point. Hope you enjoy your trip to Quebec City!

Travel Tips for Quebec

The Fortifications of Quebec City

by Paul2001

Quebec City is the only remaining fortified city in North America. The wall stretch around the old city for 4.6 km. The walls were built through out the 17th and early 19th century and were laid down in various styles as according to the military architecture of the period. As artillery became more powerful it was required to build even stronger fortifications. At the heart of the fortifications is the Citadel. This structure was built by the British in the 19th century to fend of any American invasion. Today the walls have managed to serve as a defensive barrier against the modern world and helped perserve the old town. You can climb much of the foritifications were you can take in vistas of the Viex Quebec and the St. Lawrance River.

Walk around the city. Don't...

Walk around the city. Don't bother with a car for the old city (both lower and upper). Bring lots of water and wear comfy shoes. Walk the boardwalk along the edge of the upper town next to the Chateau Frontenac. It's gorgeous.

The ferry

by Scotsgal

While at the bottom, catch the ferry across the St. Lawrence for great views back toward Quebec City. The round trip takes approximately thirty minutes and gives the opportunity to rest weary feet. You don't have to get off on the far shore. Don't forget your camera. You'll want to take pictures of Old Quebec and the lower town from the river.

French Food and Drink # 5 - Chocolate :-)

by jamiesno

I personally have a weakness for chocolate so you can imagine that I really enjoyed the different Chocolaterie's of Quebec.

This one was in the Petite Champlain area of old Quebec but don't it looks great :-)

Packing List

by Tinuvielle

If you are coming to Quebec in the summer time, pack light clothes as well as pants, sweaters and a rain coat! Wheather can be really changing sometimes!

If you are coming in the winter time bring a GOOD winter coat and warm boots! Quebec winters are well known to be really really cold! Depending from where you are from, you can be shocked! Don't be suprise to see temperatures between -20°C and -30°C on the thermometer!! :)
