Small hotel inside the city walls

Priceline didn't seem to be working for Quebec City any better than it was for Montreal, at the time I didn't know we were visiting right in the middle of their Festival d'Ete (summer festival)so when I got up to $85 I stopped bidding and decided to try and find a B&B or small hotel. Hotel Marie Rollet was recommended in the 2006 edition of Fodors so when I found they had availability I booked it.

We spend very little time in our room so I opted for Room B, their lowest priced room that had at least a double bed and a private bath inside the room, $109 CAD in high season. Room B is located in the basement, down one flight of stairs.

The room had a really high double bed, you had to either jump or use the little stairs to get in and out. There was air conditioning in our room and cable TV. There was a small refrigerator just outside the room if you needed one. Someone left the alarm on (twice in one vacation!!!) but at least it was set for 9 am and not 6 am like the one in Montreal.

The bathroom was small but adequate, plenty of hot water, soap and shampoo for toiletries, regular towels.

The two highest priced rooms have working fireplaces, obviously not a necessity in the height of the summer season but it might be nice if you were visiting in the winter.

Unique Quality: The hotel did not have an included breakfast but they did offer 15% off coupons for a local restaurant that we did not try.

Parking is extra, there's an underground garage across the street at the Hotel de Ville. We paid $26CAD to park there for 1 1/2 days, we asked if there was a discounted rate for hotel guests and were advised that there was not.

The location was the biggest plus for this hotel, located right in the heart of the Upper Town.
