by nataniel_r

Hello everybody! My name is Nataniel and i am from Azerbaijan, Baku.
I'd like to come to Quebec to study. I have BD (Azerbaijan State University of Foreign Languages/English-French translator). I'd like to know if there are any Quebec Universities, which offer any summer/autumn courses for educational excellence. Thanks for any info and links.

Hi Nataniel,

This is fun because I'm from Montreal, Quebec, and I will be in Baku in one week!
I think I would be able to answer you question because I'm a french teacher myself, so I know about all the universitie's french learning and french teaching programs. But it would help to be more specific: what do you mean exactly by "educational excellence"?
Also, when you are talking about "Quebec", do you mean the province or the city?

Fell free to send me a personnal email if you want to practice your french! :-)

I want to find any university in Quebec, which offers foreign students 3 months courses by cheap price(this autumn). Also, it would be better to find any university in Quebec, which has STUDY&WORK program. Can you recommend any?!

The old city walls – military background #4

by tiabunna

When you enter old Québec, the city walls make an immediate visual impact. This is the only fortified city north of Mexico, so the ‘uniqueness’ factor is pretty high. Come to a point, we have no walled cities in Australia and even in Europe few cities have complete remaining city walls.

Completed during the first half of the 18th century, following the War of 1690 between the English colonies and New France, the walls of Québec presumably would have been a significant hindrance to most armies of the time. With cannons mounted to help deter the British forces, the Marquis de Montcalm should have felt comfortable staying behind them. After the British victory at the start of winter, the occupation forces they left behind were in turn defeated by French forces six months later – but (oh the irony) the British retreated behind the walls and the siege was relieved by a British fleet when the river ice cleared as warmer weather arrived.

In those days, the gates through the walls would have involved several layers of military defences. Since then, the need to provide efficient services to the city and the lack of need for such barricades have led to the construction of large, quite stylish and elaborate “gates” through the walls to provide access to the city.

In Quebec tipping is a way of...

In Quebec tipping is a way of life. Be nice and tip for good service.

If you don't speak French, ask the person first 'Do you speak English?' before asking them your question. In most touristy areas most people are bilingual, but not always.

warm sweater in evening in summer at times

by Simonneeddy

Normal bags. Back Pack As you can see in the picture of Simonne on the boardwalk warm clothing is needed in Nov. and the following months. In summer good walking shoes, mosquito repellant, shorts, sun hat. In winter the best winter gear you can bring especially if you come for the Winter Canival. Ski clothing is usually OK. All available here no problem In The Province we have many great parks for camping and back packing so the usual equipment is OK. We have excellent bike paths all over the Province so if you do this sport be prepared. Rent a car and drive along old highway 132 on the South shore of the St. Lawrence river to see the way we use to live.

Tourism is one of the major industries in the city of Quebec and the tourist office is there to make sure they make the most of their stay in the region. You can stop by the info center located at 12 rue Sainte-Anne, in front of the Chateau Frontenac, to get all the information you need - whether you're looking for a map, a guided tour, a restaurant recommendation or if you need help booking a place to stay or want to plan a trip to other regions in the province, the info center staff will give you all that information and more! You can also visit the Website before your trip and order free tour guides of Quebec's 21 tourist regions.
