We were travelling in a three star base, but one of the first hotels rated four, and... we became expecting some comfort. However, for us, everything failed in Quebec. The french people had no complaints, but... we did. Maybe because we were a family of four, we went to an apartment over the entrance. It was large, nothing to say about beds and bathroom, but it had no conditioned air. It was very, very hot and impossible to sleep with the window closed. But it was also impossible with it opened, because the noise from the road. Bad Memories from Quebec. We alerted the guide and he seemed very surprised. Maybe because of it, in the next stop, I think we had the best apartment.

Located on the outer ring of the city, within the hotels and restaurants cluster. The hotel offers a standard type of accommodation, cozy beds and warm, comfy blankets + extra spa jacuzzi for a long cold night. It's a 1-story bulilding, pretty new and well maintained. Plus complimentary breakfast (juice/milk/coffee/muffins/bagles) and free internet connection. Beer (for warming you up) vending machines and ice (do we really need ice in that weather?) makers are also available on site. Although it is a bit of a drive from Old Quebec where most of the attractions are, but comparing to its price and tranquility HoJo is still a good bet. My room at the B&B! Cute ain't it? by Laura_Mexico I must say I have mixed feelings about this place... It wasn't my first choice for lodging: I had no idea where to stay, so I browsed some brochures at the train/bus terminal and picked a B&B which looked really nice and was within walking distance from the station (La Boheme).... I was trying to get into this place but the lady in charge -- who was very kind -- told me she had no vacant room but she would take me to another B&B 2-3 doors away where they did have a free room. So she took me there, and I must say the house was very nice. The old lady who ran it was also very attentive, she cooked breakfast every morning and even booked a day trip for me. However, I don't think this is the nicest area in Quebec City... it was a bit dark at night, with some suspicious youngsters walking by the streets leading to the B&B which really made me feel frightened and unsafe (and I live in Mexico City, where this is rather the norm...!), even though I was not coming back at 2 AM or something like that.... Nothing bad happened to me, fortunately, but I did feel this was not the best area to stay at. It was very convenient to be so close to the train/bus station and the service and the facilities were pretty good, but I think I wouldn't stay in this area again, even though during the day it was very safe, with people walking around, and it had a small supermarket and a shopping center (with public phones) nearby.
The rooms were very clean and nicely decorated with cable TV, the bathroom was very spacious (only 1 bathroom for the 3-4 rooms in the house) and clean as well with all the necessary stuff. The lady even had a mini fridge upstairs -- i.e. next to the rooms, so you didn't have to go all the way down to the kitchen -- where you could store your things, and a complimentary coffee and tea self-service. I paid something like USD $50-55 per night back then (2005) -- about CAN $55-60. NOTE: While updating this tip I googled this B&B and found out that it is no longer on business as per one of the most reliable online directories of hotels and accommodations in Quebec City....!!?? It would be a pity if it were true.... but in any case, you can still try to look into La Boheme, which apparently is still there and seemed to be a very good and affordable option too. Hotel Marie-Rollet by DueSer Hotel Marie-Rollet is a lovely, inexpensive little hotel just a couple of minutes' walk from le Chateau Frontenac on rue Ste. Anne.
Each room has its own bath facilities. Downstairs is a small community room with an ice machine as well as an iron and ironing board.

It is quite often the case that hotels promote themselves as being things they are not. For instance the airport hotel which turns out to be miles away, the business hotel whose internet connection is non-existent and etc. This hotel, however, is exactly as advertised - mid-market price, good facilities, comfortable and spacious rooms, excellent standard of housekeeping and perfect downtown location. There is nothing particularly characterful about this hotel but all the basics are spot-on. The front desk is friendly and efficient (and multi-lingual) and gives you a quick courtesy-call soon after you get to your room to check that everything is OK. There is a concierge/valet desk to assist with luggage, car-parking, local info & etc. The hotel's stylish atrium restaurant offers a full range of meals and snacks at reasonable prices (which are also available as room-service) and a well-stocked coffee/tea maker is provided in-room. Other in-room facilities are the huge TV set with pay-movies, as well as normal TV, and the more useful iron and ironing-board (same-day laundry service is also available). Business services include 24 hour fax and photo-copy service, hi-speed wi-fi throughout the building and a couple of computers in the lobby. In addition to the basics there's an indoor swimming pool, hot tub and excercise room, the use of which are included in your room rates.
As I've already said, there's nothing particularly charismatic about this hotel, just all the simple things done right. BUT! I do like the location! This end of Rue de la Couronne is a little mini-village with its local bars and restaurants and a couple of competing depanneurs (all good for keeping the prices down!). Just around the corner there are a couple of shopping streets with pretty much every type of shop required and because it's not the "vieux ville" everything is at reasonable prices - i.e. beer $4 per pinte at my local bar!! Hotel Jardin Ste-Anne, Quebec by travelgirl78 I have stayed here many times. It is not a very fancy place, but it is cozy and clean. The rooms are all different and priced based on their size and amenities. The architecture is really cool. Some of the rooms have fireplaces and stone walls. Most rooms have small tvs, and mini-refridgerators. The rates are much cheaper during the off-season (Oct.-May, excluding holidays). The hotel feels safe and secure and is within walking distance of many restaurants, shops, and attractions. There is some parking on the street, and also an underground parking garage nearby. The only downside is that some of the cheaper rooms are very small. Room prices range from $75CAN to $165CAN.
Great location, reasonable prices, cute hotel with a friendly staff. Rooms facing the street have a nice a decent view of the lower part of the town, while some backside rooms have a view of the top of Château Frontenac. The rooms on the street side may have a little street noise and the clip-clop of horse buggies walking by from around 9 or 10 am on. This little bit of noise has never kept me from sleeping though.... I think it actually adds some charm to the place!
