From Chambord we chose to drive a little further and went on to the town of Roberval------ Arrived here from Joliette on Sunday AUG.13 th 2000 at 4.45 p.m.The town is on the banks of Lac-St.-Jean. Population 11,716. It is the Capitol of the world for 'long distance swimming' due to the International traverse of the lake which had it's 46 edition in 2000. Noted for its special architehture and it's Marina. Many cruise trips available from here to tour the lake. A great beach at Point Scott and fishing for L'ouananiche a type of fish found only in this area. ( salmon,trout)It puts up a tremendous fight they tell me. There is an immense aquarium with all the fish of the lake on display. The camping Mont-Plaisant, the biggest in the region with semi-olympique pool, slides mini golf and vacation village with well equipped cabins. In winter there is the winter festival with snowmobile races.
We stayed at the Chateau Hotel shown and enjoyed its pool and sauna. It is outdoors but it was a warm afternoon so we went for a swim at 5.30 p.m. and soaked in the sauna to get rid of the stiffness from the car ride. We also ate our dinner here. I picked out a fish from the huge fish tank in the entrance a 'Ouananiche' ( similar to trout or salmon) and the cook prepared it especially for me. it was served on a platter with tail and head still on it and bathed in a sauce of cheddar cheese.Excellent. First Class restaurant.
