Universel Hotel-motel

During Quebec City's 2010 Summer Festival, the heat got so bad in our non-air-conditioned room in the Old Town that I started looking for place with air conditioning. Due to the presence of the festival, most downtown hotels were fully booked.

However, after some searching, I finally came across the Universel Hotel who had a room available. The following morning, we hopped on a bus and headed to Sainte-Foy (a former town, now a borough of Quebec City) to get some fresh air.

Hotel Universel gave us that and more: there is a small pool area, which we were glad to hop into while our room was being prepared. The continental buffet breakfast was also very adequate.

Unique Quality: This hotel is out of the way, but is connected to downtown by a number of buses, the most practical being #7 which takes about 20 minutes to go from Place d'Youville terminal at the entrance of the Old Town to the bus stop near the hotel.

The campus of Laval University, including the playing field of its highly successful Rouge & Or football team, is located across the street. There is also a small shopping centre a few away on foot to the west as well as some fast food restaurants (A&W and Pacini's) to the east.
