Convent Inn: Treasure of southern Saskatchewan

by JustinDupuis

Amazing establishment! I stayed at the Convent a few years ago while doing exterior renovations to the school in Val Marie. The owners are great! The food was unbelievable! The building and rooms are very unique and comfortable. Working on the road has never been so enjoyable!

Morse Campground: camping in Morse Saskatchewan

by vickiv2

Great little campground for tents or trailers. Nicely landscaped with grass and small shrubs. Very clean washrooms with lots of hot water. I don't remember exactly, but I think it was $8.00 without hookups. It was nice and quiet and there is a golf course right beside it. It is well located mid-way through Sask. The town is kind of a ghost town and I think you can buy serviced house lots there for $1,000. It does have a small co-op and gas bar which sold lovely cherries in season. Not a party place (fine with me) because the locals keep a close eye on it. Very close to a major bird sanctuary where whooping cranes and other rarities can be seen. This sanctuary is an odd place and certainly full of birds, but it is located near this large mound of naturally occuring mildly toxic substance. Maybe this is why whooping cranes are rare?
The campground is right next to the Railway line, but this didn't bother us. Nice, plain and simple spot to spend the night, but fancier and nicer than any other small town campground in Saskatchewan

A ranchin experience like no other

by MelsTreks

I cant really name a hotel here of fun places with lots of people because that is not what it is all about here! it is quiet, surreal, spaced out and time seems to stand still. If you want a true experience stay away from the cities and delve into the real farm experience. Things that matter in the busy land of Ontario where I reside, really have no value and do not really matter around here. For instance hair, clothes, social status, blah blah blah. An industrious province in central Canada, that is a great place to live as well as visit. A chance to really get a taste of farming and ranching history, and how things are done around here in ways that affect the rest of Canada as well as on a global scale. A resourceful province that supplies oil, cattle, grain, wheat, canola, milk...you name it. If these sorts of things interest you, add the province of Saskatchewan to you list of places to visit.

A true picture of the history of farming and ranching of Canada. We eat the grains that are grown here in our breads and cereals...we perhaps drink milk and eat beef and canola and soy...why not learn a little bit about how its done and the hard workers who make it all possible.

Grandma Shirley's Bed and Breakfast: Leader "feels like staying with your own grandma"

by vtveen

A real bed and breakfast address in restful surroundings. Cosy rooms and an excellent breakfast with home baking. Very nice and friendly hosts.

We felt staying with our "own" grandma.

The Convent Country Inn & Restaurant: Val Marie: most special B&B ever

by vtveen

The Convent is situated in a restored convent (build in 1939) used as a school till 1960.
We found this accommodation in the village of Val Marie SK, more or less in ‘the middle of nowhere’.

The spirit of the former inhabitants is still present in the large rooms with rich interior woodwork. Our room had a very small sink in a closet. For a bath or shower we had to use the creaking wooden staircase to the first floor.

In two old classrooms you will find a sitting and a dining room with still blackboards against the wall, with lots of stimulating sayings (you will find one of them on my homepage). Also a little chapel still exists.

You can have a perfect (and affordable) three course dinner (by reservation); even in the middle of the plains we had an excellent wild salmon.

The Convent Inn is an ideal starting point for a visit to the nearby Grasslands National Park of Canada (see 'must see' tips).

Building with character.
Excellent diner.
