The first time I was up here in 1997 was to canoe the many Lakes and waterways in northern Saskatchewan. Saskatchewan has about 96,000 lakes. I canoed the largest one- Reindeer Lake the 10th largest in North America, part of which extends in Manitoba as well. It is over 140 miles in length, up to 35 miles wide and has thousands of islands. It was a solo trip for me, on this huge expanse of water to visit Deep Bay on the southern end of the lake. Deep Bay is a prehistoric meteor impact crater from about 100 million years ago. It's about 5-6 miles in diameter, and about 700' deep. The local natives have a fear of going into this bay, there is reputed to be a lake monster here!, probably a giant sturgeon.
I have canoed part of the Churchill River which bisects the province. I've also been up to Points North at the terminus of the highway and have flown in to Kasba Lake, NWT from here to fish it's pristine water for 35# lake trout, 4 #Arctic grayling amd enormous pike. More on that later!
