The Castle
Rising among the trees that line the river bank, the hotel Delta Bessborough rises like a castle in the Alps. Built in 1932 by the Canadian National Railway, this ultimate in chateau design is still referred to locally as 'The Castle'.

Hello everyone,
Lots of advice would be greatly appreciated!
My patner and myself have been looking into moving to saskatchewan, he will be doing long haul driving, so I am looking for a nice area for myself and my three year old son to live (and feel safe) whilst he is away. I wil hopefully be going to the uni of sask, so would like to live in a nice area near to the uni, that wont take me too long to drive there each day, also i would need a nice primary school for my son.
Some general questions also...I am still young ;o) so would like to know about nightlife, shopping (the clothing type!), restaurants and that kind of thing. From what i've seen saskatchewan looks like a very nice place to live but would greatly appreciate your thoughts...many thanks.XxX

Good luck!!
Hi - I hope you love Saskatchewan - it is a great place.
My son and his girlfriend both go to the U of S; they live in the City Park (near City hospital) area, and just walk over the University bridge to go to there (easier and less expensive than parking)....
Enjoy settling in:)

You should go check out spadina crescent. It is the most beatiful road in the city. You can get out and walk in the park down by the Bessbough Hotel, and there are always tones of festivites happening, and lots of people to talk to. I will probalbly just miss the atmosphere, and the surroundings of knowing someone everywhere I go. Seeing as how I grew up here. There is just kind of an orderly fashion about this place that I will miss
Saskatoon is very much a University City, meaning students are catered to from September to April. You will find specials and deals in various shops around town if you carry a student card. Rules vary from year to year though so you'll have to ask (sometimes you just need a student card, other times you require a special student ID card).
Starting from Saskatchewan Cres. East near College Drive and ending at the Broadway Bridge are a number of homes that were built in the early 1900s to accomodate university-related professionals like presidents of the university, doctors, and professors. These homes were the first such "mansions" to be built on the riverbank. Some houses have a story behind them, including a murder mystery or two. The homes have a great view of downtown, including the Bessborough.
Another area to see these homes is located west of 8th Street on Saskatchewan Cres. West and Poplar Cres. A home in this exclusive area was once listed as a multi-million dollar home a few years ago, the first in Saskatoon. The homes on Saskatchewan Cres. West usually have backyards that face the riverbank. Some have boathouses as a result.
Batoche. An important site of Canadian history is a couple hours' drive north of Saskatoon. Learn about the Battle of Batoche, Louis Riel, and Gabriel Dumont at the relatively new Visitor's Centre. Walk around the area and breathe in the history. For more information, check out this website: <a href='http://www.parkscanada.pch.gc.ca/parks/saskatchewan/batoche'target='_none' Batoche
