Cheaper accommodations - Inns

by olivepip

v's larger hotels.

Anyone know about Confederation Inn, or The Westgate Inn? Both along 22nd St W & Circle Drive W
They're definately a lot cheaper than hotels like, say, Days Inn or Country Inn & Suites.
But is it worth it? I wouldn't be spending a lot of time there & extra comforts (found in more expensive hotels) aren't a priority. But then I don't want to stay in a dive either!
I just want a comfy bed, a clean room, hot water and a feeling of safety.
I'll have a car too, so distance to things won't be a problem.

So just wondering if anyone knows of & can give an opinion on these two places.

Much appreciated,

Saskatoon is pretty isolated so hotels are quite pricey.

You're not saying much about your trip, if it is business, how long you will stay if anyone will be with you, so it is difficult to judge your level of expectancy.

Personally I would go for the standard fare even if pricier. The options you mentioned are pretty close to my definition of a dive and Saskatoon can be a bit iffy at nighty, especially outside of the main thoroughfare

My trip is purely pleasure, to check out some of the Aboriginal tourism and I guess anything else I come across when I'm there.

I'll either be alone, maybe with one other (once they make up their mind!).
For 5 nights.

Maybe that'll be too long, I don't know. I did note the expense of hotels, which is why I was looking cheaper. But if that's the wrong way to think, I'm all for any opinions & advice.

Thanks for your response!

Travel Tips for Saskatoon

living in Saskatoon

by jock1968

nice city to live in altough,a few differences in attitude..lived here 5yr,from Scotland, have had more doors shut in my face here than my entire life in Scotland, driving very aggressive, the general rule of thumb is dont give to anyone, and you will fit in,although it takes a while to get into that frame of mind..love your neighbour?...well dont know most dont talk or say hello, wont complain about anything to your face,,ie dog barks expect a letter from City..build a fence expect a few comments on the rules and regs of it...on the whole despite the differences is a nice city to see but probably not to stay long term...the general rudeness does grind you down... leaving

Since I live here. I suggest to come here in the summer.. Experiance the sights along the River Banks..
Activities such as 'The River Roar', 'Shakespear on Saskatchewan',' Jazz Festival', 'Louis Riel Relay', and many many more..
As well check out the 'Western Developement Museum'; 'Boomtown' is situated inside'
And to conclude, stop by 'The Deifenbaker Centre'; was once a Canadian Prime Minister, first Saskatchewan residant to become Prime Minister..
Hope that helps. I miss the Malls
Summer time I miss the River, cuz its wonderfull beauty along with the Bridges.
I live here... so I miss most things... Accept the crazy drivers, rush hour, and the mall with everyone everywhere ...

Saskatoon is a city best...

by katsiris

Saskatoon is a city best visited in the spring or summer- there is ALWAYS something going on. During the summer, there is generally one or two festivals per week, and the city is in a very upbeat and festive frame of mind after the oft cold and harsh winters.

If you are in Saskatoon during this period, you must take a walk/bike/rollerblade down the Meewasin trail. The trail runs from the northernmost point of the city to the southernmost, along the river bank, and it is very scenic and beautiful. Be sure to make a stop downtown at the Bus, a double-decker red bus converted into an ice-cream and yogurt stand. It's right across from the Besborough hotel. Continue down the trail until you hit a festival. :)

Packing List

by DrSpiritGirl

Any kind of luggage/bags are fine - rolling wheels are easy for Saskatoon Depending on the time of the year visiting Saskatoon - if it is wintertime, you do want to bring gloves, scarf, headgear, and a warm coat. (Boots are a good idea too.) In the summer, you want to have clothes that will allow for hot (30C) to cool evenings (15-20). In the summer you do want mosquito spray!!!!
In the winter you do want to bring moisturizers!!! Anything goes Light colored clothes are the best for fooling those crazy bugs, bathing suits of any kind are appropriate....

For those who enjoy art,...

For those who enjoy art, particularily sculptures, go to the University of Saskatchewan campus and behind the Deifenbaker Canada Centre, just east of the Meewasin Trail. There are many unique and intriguing sculptures created by local artists. My favourite is the huge hand coming out of the ground!
