Ilulissat YH by Saagar For cheap accomodation in Greenland beyond a tent, nothing beats the "Vandrerhjem", part of the youth hostel system. Very simple two-persons' room in a prefab military-style barrakcs (polar housing tend to be like this due to the permafrost), with separate shower/toilet and kitchen units for self-catering. You do the dishes and clean your room yourself. Good storage space in the room, very warm, but not very private (thin walls, sharing tables for meals etc. Beds with mattress, but bring your own sleeping bag.
Slightly in the outskirts of Ilulissat, but still walking distance to all shops, tourist facilities, trailheads etc. Theme: HostelPrice: US$20-40 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveAddress: Ilulissat vandrerhjem, IlulissatDirections: Take a taxi direct from the airport (DKR approx 120). From the harbour walk uphill past the main town crossroads, past tourist agencies, turn left past the kindergarden and you'll have the blue hostel on your left shortly.

Hotel Hvide Falk from the sea side by Saagar Never stayed overnight, but made use of restaurant, bar, travel services, shop.
Fantastic view toward the Isfjeldbanken where the icebergs get stranded and toward Disko island. Convenient location near just about everything in Ilulissat, beats the other top end hotel toward the airport by a mile and a half... A fairly old hotel, traditions and local roots, but not an architectural pearl... Never stayed, but researched accommodation in NE Greenland and this is all I found. But not at all bad, take a look at the web page for photos of the place and check services. For an Arctic exploration, this is close to the ultimate place if you got the money to get into the fjords. A guest house with a reasonable price level, and both short-term and long-term stays are possible.
The place is definitely unique. And if you are quarreling with your neighbour at home, you will not meet him/her here! A true escape. Very welcoming, friendly owners. Hotel is basic but fine. You can also get all your meals there. The breakfast is buffet style with loads of cheeses, meats, bread and yoghurt. Dinner is a four course affair. There is no menu - you eat what you get but I found it all delicious. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
Fabulous views of the lake below with icebergs... stunning Theme: HotelPrice: US$40-80 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageWebsite: www.east_greenland.com
