Tenting in Greenland

by TheView

The ground is public area so if you just keep away from the direct vicinity of other people’s houses you are free to camp in the country. The climate makes this primary an summertime option unless you are out for an extreme adventure.

Hotel Hans Egede: Hotel Hans Egede, Nuuks 4 star hotel

by TheView

Nuuks 4 star hotel is located smack downtown in Nuuk city. And offers you most things you expect from a nice hotel. It has a ¨sky bar¨ and it has one of the best restaurants in Greenland Sarfalik plus a Hereford Beefstouw that is also used for the very fine morning buffet that are incl. in the room price. Beds are fine and with warm duvets. The location don’t give you any special views from the ¨sky bar¨ you can just see the fjord over the rooftops of the town.

Right next door to the hotel is a very fine Thai restaurant –Charoen Porn, that I can recommend. My favourite dish is the baked redfish.

The price of the room a standard single room is 1490 DDK (around 260 $) for the room that is nothing special is as most things very expensive. For 260$ we can get 5 star luxury hotels over the most of the world. Somehow have the relationship to Denmark run-up the prices as officials and other coming to work and stat for meetings and so on needs a place to stay and the governments will pay this. So as a tourist you get hit by this price bumping.
Internet is extra, so is coffee/the outside special hours.

It is downtown Nuuk ...notthing outstanding to this price.

Hotel Arctic: Best hotel in Greenland

by TheView

Hotel Arctic in Ilulissat is the best hotel in Greenland it is a 4 star hotel and has a very good restaurant plus a little more low-key one as well. It has a shuttle service as it is located a bit outside the town. But it is walkable to get to the town centre (around 10 min). The beds are very nice and soft with good warm duvets. It also haves some ¨romantic¨ igloos located right at the water that seems to be an ideal honeymoon setting if you are not going for a hot location. Most rooms have a good view over the icefjord that is Ilulissats UNESCO world heritage site.

The hotel is own by Air Greenland and offer check-in and baggage handling at the hotel and transport to the airport, that just makes life easier and you don’t have to worry about making the flight.

Stayed in Hotel Icefiord for a couple of days. Really liked the ambience of the hotel. The rooms were large and cosy. The food in the restaurant was good. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Narsarsuaq downtown, in front of the airport
Convenient hotel to spend the first and last nights of your stay in Greenland.
It is just in front of the airport of Narsarsuaq. You can walk there. Prices are not expensive.

Hotel Hvide falk: Convenient and good in Ilulissat

by Saagar

Never stayed overnight, but made use of restaurant, bar, travel services, shop.

Fantastic view toward the Isfjeldbanken where the icebergs get stranded and toward Disko island. Convenient location near just about everything in Ilulissat, beats the other top end hotel toward the airport by a mile and a half...
A fairly old hotel, traditions and local roots, but not an architectural pearl...

Red House Hotel: Tassalik Hotel

by mabm

Very welcoming, friendly owners. Hotel is basic but fine. You can also get all your meals there. The breakfast is buffet style with loads of cheeses, meats, bread and yoghurt. Dinner is a four course affair. There is no menu - you eat what you get but I found it all delicious. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Fabulous views of the lake below with icebergs... stunning

Ittoqqortoormiit Guest House: Accommodation in Ittoqqortoormiit, NE Greenland

by Saagar

Never stayed, but researched accommodation in NE Greenland and this is all I found. But not at all bad, take a look at the web page for photos of the place and check services. For an Arctic exploration, this is close to the ultimate place if you got the money to get into the fjords.

A guest house with a reasonable price level, and both short-term and long-term stays are possible.

The place is definitely unique. And if you are quarreling with your neighbour at home, you will not meet him/her here! A true escape.

Ilulissat Vandrerhjem: Youth hostel in Ilulissat

by Saagar

For cheap accomodation in Greenland beyond a tent, nothing beats the "Vandrerhjem", part of the youth hostel system.
Very simple two-persons' room in a prefab military-style barrakcs (polar housing tend to be like this due to the permafrost), with separate shower/toilet and kitchen units for self-catering. You do the dishes and clean your room yourself. Good storage space in the room, very warm, but not very private (thin walls, sharing tables for meals etc.
Beds with mattress, but bring your own sleeping bag.

Slightly in the outskirts of Ilulissat, but still walking distance to all shops, tourist facilities, trailheads etc.
