i know someone going from mexico city to oaxaca very soon, and would like anyone with info to help re 'a guide on buse services re costs etc'....also return journey too. how much and whats best bus service? thanks.

If you book online, remember to bring your credit card used for booking with you when pick up your ticket at the bus station.
I am sorry, I do not know the current price, nor can I say what is the best bus service. If you really want the best, I am sure that there are some luxury sleeper buses that provide greater comfort and even drinks and probably even some food. I would say that in general first class buses should be satisfactory (especially for day travel as the journey only takes about 6 hours) and are significantly cheaper.
Unless it is a special holiday, I would not worry about getting tickets by internet or the day before. There are so many buses making this trip (One about every half hour until 01:30 AM on one company alone.), I'd just go to the TAPO station (not far from the airport) and buy my ticket just before departure. That way I would not have to worry about missing a bus I already have paid a ticket for.

see Tulum (7 km. north of Maya Tulum) which is the largest Maya construction built on the coast. Today it is Mexico's most visited pre-Hispanic site. This royal city, perched on limestone cliffs, is worth a visit because of the magnificent view and the charm of its buildings.
Do like the locals do and enjoy some good street food, especially the awesome tacos. It is always a gamble to eat street food, but if you go to one that is relatively crowded, that is a good bet. My favorite taco stand was near the Alameda, across the street from the movie theater. They have the best Al Pastor Tacos, generous portions of veggies, and a great staff.
Palacio de bella artes is a must to see in Mexico city, a beautifull building, where you can see arts and watch concerts.
And most people will go and see all the Aztec culture, which is amazing, and you will be wondering afterwards, how did they all build it?????
If you are in town during October, don't you miss the opportunity to taste one of our culinary prouds: mole!!!
La Feria del Mole or "Mole market fest" is held in San Pedro Atocpan, located about 2 hours from downtown. It's a very big market where there are improvised restaurants, shops and it is celebrated once a year.
