Great Location
Hotel with a fantastic location on Zocalo and with a rooftop restaurant overlooking the square. The price is slighty higher than other hotels in the zona rosa but the convienence of the location makes it worth the extra cost.
Opinion of Price: more expensive than average

Holiday Inn Zocalo
$90 for a double including breakfast.
Unique Quality: Surprisingly good (if the rooms are on the small side) and a great location to explore the old city. Breakfast served on the rooftop terrace immediately opposite the cathedral. Friendly and welcoming.

I have a reservation at the Holiday Inn located at the Main Sq. Av Cinco De Mayo, would one of the following be a better bet. Hotel Catedral, Casa Blanca, or Hotel Emporio? Your input is appreciated.

If you've not been to Mexico City before, and are generally unfamiliar with the area - I'll suggest that you not stay at the Holiday Inn-Zocalo. Same goes for Hotel Catedral - a place I think is highly over-rated and infested with foreigners. The Casa Blanca and Emporio are good choices, I think. However, without knowing your past experiences and what you want to accomplish this trip, it's not that easy to comment. By the way, most of what there is to see/do in Mexico City is not in Centro Historico, and it's an area considered not that safe at night, especially when wandering about alone.

Gomexico always recommends against staying in the Centro Historico. In contrast, I think is the best place to be if you like streetlife and easy walking access to great sites, but we both agree that wandering around after 9 or 10 pm is not to be recommended in this area.
I doubt any single person can give you a comparison of the hotels you list so I would recommend checking out the "tripadvisor" site. It seems that they have a better spectrum of reviews than VT. I initially wondered where Gomexico got his feeling that Hotel Catedral was over-rated since it had not been my experience that it was overwhelmed with foreign tourists and it seemed to be good value for the money, but then I saw that Tripadvisor said it was #2 in popularity. There is no way that this hotel could be close to being the 2nd best hotel for the money in Mexico City. Another hotel I have recommended for its location and rooftop restaurant, the Holiday Majestic is generally and correctly slammed in Tripadvisor for the Zocalo noise and the dark interior. I think I ignored this in my tip and will have to go back and add this caution. Good luck, bob
