Great Place at a Great Price
The best thing about Hotel Isabel is the location and the price but it offers plenty to make your stay worth while. The staff is extremely friendly and can speak English and Spanish. They offer different room types from singles to quads with or without a bathroom. The hotel has a security guard downstairs at all times so the hotel is very safe. They have free wireless internet, but to be honest, not all of the rooms have great access. But you can sit outside the rooms at these desks and access the wifi from there.
If you like things to be more quiet, you probably want a room away from the street because those are more quiet. Also, there is a nearby hostel that can get loud on the weekends.
Unique Quality: Ask for a room with a balcony or a window because it can get really hot in rooms without one. The balconied rooms are the best if you can get one. They have a free safe in the room that you can set a code to yourself. The rooms with bathrooms are quite roomy.

Beautifull lowbudget hotel
We stayed in a big room with 3 beds, although only with the 2 of us.
Very basic interior, but what you expect for only 390 pesos (+/- 15 euro).
Right next to the Centro Historico.
Safe place.
Friendly staff

Nice hotel with big rooms. The "patio" is nice in latino style. Good service and location.

Hotel Isabel
Hotel Isabel actually dates back to the Mexican Revolution and Colonial ambiance has largely been preserved. Massive rooms starting at 95 pesos (2001) make this a great deal in Mexico City. It is fairly close to the Zocalo and the metro. At the same time it is secure and friendly. They also have a bar downstairs. I noticed that on the Lonely Planet/Pilot Guides series that this is where they stayed.
Enhancing my stay were the Hondurans there for an olympic football qualifier against the host nation the next day. The place was full of them in a festive mood.
